Second-year head coach Gregg Brandon , the 16th head coach in the history of the BGSU football program, joined Don Nehlen and Urban Meyer as the only BGSU football coaches to begin their career with a 3-0 record. Brandon's 11 wins last year were the most by any first-year NCAA IA coach in 2003. Sixteen players who started in last year's Motor City Bowl will be on the field for the Falcons. Nine of those were on offense and seven started on defense. The Falcons finished the 2003 season ranked 23rd in the AP and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Polls and were 21st in the final BCS rankings of 2003. BGSU received 2 votes in the first AP poll and 22 votes from the coaches. BGSU defeated two nationally ranked squads last year when they won 27-26 at #16 Purdue, and 34-18 against #12 Northern Illinois. Since 2001, BGSU is 3-0 against the Big XII and 3-1 against the Big Ten. During that span, the Falcons swept a home-and-home series against Missouri and won at Kansas.
