Marquette Leads After Day One of John Piper Intercollegiate

Bowling Green, Ohio - Marquette leads the 4th annual John Piper Intercollegiate after day one with a 36-hole score of 569 (281-288), at the Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio. The 16-team tournament is being hosted by Bowling Green State University and is named after former Falcon head coach John Piper.
The Golden Eagles have two players in the top-five and three in the top eight. Their team score of 569 puts them at seven-under and six strokes ahead of second-place Ohio who ended Monday with a team score of 575 (291-284).
Notre Dame's Shane Sigsbee leads the tournament with a 36-hole score of 138 (70-68). Ohio's Ryan Siekmann (70-69) and Longwood's Chris Shuford (67-72) are just one stroke back and tied for second place with a score of 139. Mike King of Notre Dame is fourth with a score of 140 (68-72), while BGSU's Craig Pickerel (72-69) is tied for fifth place with Marquette's Ted Gray (65-76) and Joe Weber (70-71) with a score of 141.
Gray's first-round score of 65 was the lowest on the day.
The Falcons have two teams competing in the tournament with its "A" team currently tied for sixth with Wisconsin-Green Bay with a score of 588. Pickerel is pacing the way with a score of 141 while freshmen Jace Walker is tied for 27th (148) and Trevor Spathelf is tied for 33rd (149). Junior Heath Ziglar is tied for 42nd (151) and sophomore Dan McIntyre is tied for 46th (152).
BGSU's "B" team tied for ninth place with a score of 593. Junior Chris Leake is tied for eighth with a score of 142, including a first-round of 68 to go along with a second-round score of 74. Sophomore Brad Dearsman is tied for 22nd (146) while juniors Adam Cordes and Tommy Lopez are tied for 58th with scores of 155. Freshman Russell Goodwin is tied for 66th (157) and freshman Michael Bibler is competing as an individual and is tied for 79th (163).
The final round of the 54-hole tournament will kick off with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14, at Stone Ridge Golf Club. Stone Ridge Golf Club is par 72 and 7,064 yards long.
