Bowling Green, Ohio - The Varsity BG Club, which has a membership of over 600 former BGSU letter winners, will recognize four people as part of this year's Varsity BG Club Letter Winners Weekend.
GOLD LETTER WINNER - Jim Baxter - FB
Jim Baxter played quarterback for the Falcons and graduated in 1948. After graduation he became head football coach at Anthony Wayne Schools. Jim then moved to the Pandora-Gilboa School system, where he was a highly successful football coach. He then progressed to Principal and eventually Superintendent of that school system. When Jim retired he worked with the Ohio Retired teachers Association and eventually served as the Director for the entire state. Accepting on behalf of Jim is his son Don, the head football coach at Napoleon Michigan High School.
SILVER LETTERWINNER - Bill Regnier - WRS
Bill Regnier was a letter winner in wrestling and graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1964. Over the past 30 years at Bedford High School in Michigan, Bill has been one of the most successful wrestling coaches in the nation. He has had 26 league titles, 4 state runner-up titles and 9 state team championships. He has been inducted into the Michigan and National High School Athletic Coaches Hall of Fames and in 1992 was named the national high school wrestling coach of the year. Bill and his wife, Carol, still reside in Bedford, Michigan.
HONORARY LETTER WINNER - Bill Jones
For 28 years Bill Jones oversaw the intercollegiate athletic program's sports medicine personnel at BGSU. In 1997, he was inducted into the Ohio Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame and was also the first trainer ever named to the NCAA Ice Hockey Rules Committee. Jones is a 1966 graduate of BGSU and the holder of a master's degree from the University as well. He and his wife, Barbara, are the parents of a daughter, Cindy, and a son, Scott. During his extensive tenure at BGSU, Bill worked under five University presidents, five football coaches, three hockey coaches and supervised the care of over 10,000 student-athletes.
HONORARY LETTER WINNER - Dave Horger
Dave Horger started his affiliation with Falcon Athletics in 1980 keeping stats and doing the color commentary along side Dave Carr on WFOB radio. In 1991, Dave became the "Voice of the Falcons" as BGSU's play-by-play announcer for football, basketball and other various sports. For 11 years Dave announced games, hosted radio coaches shows and performed countless interviews with Falcon greats. Dave and his wife Cathy reside in Bowling Green and continue to be avid Falcon fans.
