Falcons to Play in Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic this Weekend

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University softball team concludes the fall portion of the 2004-05 schedule this weekend with a trip to Columbus. The Falcons will participate in the Ohio Collegiate Charity Classic this Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 2-3) at Fred Beekman Park at The Ohio State University.
A total of 18 teams from the state of Ohio will compete in the fourth annual softball tournament benefiting the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.

The Falcons are slated to play a total of five games in the tournament. On Saturday, the Falcons will face Wright State at 11:00 a.m., arch-rival UT at 1:00 p.m. and host OSU at 5:00 p.m. BGSU's Sunday schedule includes an 11:00 a.m. game vs. UD and a 3:00 p.m. tilt vs. YSU.
Stefanie Spielman will be speaking at 1 p.m. Sunday at Field No. 1.
Fred Beekman Park is a four-field complex located west of State Route 315 at Lane Avenue. Concessions will be available and bleacher seating is limited. Admission to the event will be a $5 donation and all proceeds go directly to the charity. Notably, all of the umpires for this event are donating their time.
Spielman and her husband, former All-Pro NFL linebacker and OSU standout, Chris Spielman, established the Stefanie Spielman Fund. The couple pledged to raise $1 million for breast cancer research at the Comprehensive Cancer Center - Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute at The Ohio State University. The goal has been surpassed, but the Spielmans continue the fight against breast cancer.
