Falcons To Compete In Red Simmons Invitational This Saturday

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The BGSU track and field team heads to Ann Arbor, Michigan, this weekend (Jan. 22) to compete in the Red Simmons Invitational. Joining the Falcons will be Ball State, South Florida, Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, Akron, Detroit-Mercy, Hillsdale College and Grand Valley State to the U-M Indoor Track Building.
Falcons Look To Build On Lats Weeks Performances
With 221.50 points the BGSU track and field team placed second in the BGSU Invitational held inside the Perry Field House last Saturday afternoon. Western Michigan (227.50) captured the title, while Miami (212), Ohio (123.50) and Detroit-Mercy (111.50) completed the five-team meet.
Sophomore Jessica White had an impressive start to the 2005 campaign by capturing both the 60-meter (7.65) and 200-meter dash (25.58), for a quick 20 points towards the Falcons second-place finish. Both times were career-bests for White.
In the distance events the Falcons took home top honors in both the 1600 meters and 3,000 meters. Senior Melissa Kruger was four seconds faster then the nearest competitor in the 1600, posting a time of 5:07.31 and freshman Jamie Roflow dominated the 3K with a time of 10:04.52, 26 seconds faster then Miami's Tricia Frisella.
Senior Kerri McClung dominated the throw events bringing home top honors in the shot put (15.36 meters) and posting a third-place mark in the weight throw with a distance of 15.50 meters.
