BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green handed the Mastodons just their third loss of the season in a convincing manner with a 3-0 sweep dominated by the Falcons. BGSU kept the red-hot offense rolling by blasting 62 kills with an incredible .430 hitting percentage for the match.
"To hit .430 against such a good team showed that we really wanted it tonight," said Head Coach Denise Van De Walle.
After compiling 33 kills over the weekend, senior Ashlei Nofzinger was unstoppable once again, swatting a career-high 20 kills in just three games. Nofzinger committed just one attack error on her way to hitting a booming .655 for the match. Three separate Falcons hit over .500 with six kills or more.
"Noffy getting 20 kills in three games is nice, that is a big, big game," said Coach Van De Walle.
However, Nofzinger was not the only Falcon to achieve a career-high in kills. While playing both setter and outside hitter, the versatile junior Chrissy Gothke hammered home a personal best 14 kills (14-2-22). Even more impressive, Gothke earned her third triple-double of the season with 14 kills, 29 assists and 10 digs.

Neither team could take much of a lead in game one with the score being tied as late as 26-26. With that score, freshman Annie Griffin set up a big kill by Nofzinger that gave the Falcons the lead for good. Gothke sealed the match with her fifth kill of the opening act. Sophomore Stephanie Swiger was a force in the middle, rejecting four Mastodon attacks in the game one win (30-27).
After a 4-0 Falcon run to start the second stanza, IPFW was forced to take an early timeout. However, the pause in action did not help as Bowling Green continued to stomp the Mastodons in taking a 23-9 advantage. The Falcons stumbled a bit late, allowing IPFW to crawl within nine points before turning it back on and capturing game two 30-18. BGSU hit a season-best .500 in game two.
The Mastodons kept it close early in game three, knotting the score at 9-9. After a kill by freshman Meghan Mohr at 9-9, the Falcons rattled off seven straight points with senior Emily Manser serving. Manser recorded her team-high 19th service ace during the stretch. Nofzinger continued to lead the Falcons in the 30-24 game victory with eight more kills.
Bowling Green dives back into conference play this weekend with home matches against Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan. The Falcons will take on the Chippewas Friday and the Eagles Saturday with both matches scheduled to start at 7 PM.
