BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - It was Alumni Day at Anderson Arena with numerous former Falcons returning to cheer on their fellow Falcons. The Alumni were also honored during a ceremony following the second game.
Falcon volleyball suffered a tough 3-1 loss to Northern Illinois on Sunday. With the defeat, BGSU falls to 7-8 and 1-3 in the Mid-American Conference. Freshman Meghan Mohr got back on track however, leading the Brown and Orange with 15 kills while hitting .289.
BGSU led in the early stages of game one before two separate Huskie surges doomed the Falcons. Northern Illinois rattled off five-point runs twice in the 30-27 win.
Mohr pounded four kills in additional to a block in game two. Unfortunately, the Falcons could not find a way to slow down the Huskie attack, allowing a .361 hitting percentage. Senior Emily Manser and freshman Chelsey Meek each recorded a team-high seven digs in the 30-23 defeat.
BGSU came out of the locker room in a big way, storming out to a 4-0 lead in game three and forcing the Huskies to take an early timeout. After NIU tied the game at 13-13, the Falcons pulled away by slowly building on their lead to take a 30-23 victory. Sophomore Stephanie Swiger picked up three blocks in the winning effort. Manser's four kills led the Falcons to a .311 percentage.
The Brown and Orange hit a speed bump and failed to keep the momentum going in a 30-24 game four loss. The Falcons fell behind early and couldn't muster a comeback while never leading.
A trio of Falcons recorded double-digit kills, Swiger with 11, Mohr with 15 and redshirt sophomore Corrie Mills compiled 10 kills. Junior Chrissy Gothke recorded nine digs, moving her just eight digs away from the 1000-dig plateau.
The Falcons look to rebound this weekend with a pair of MAC contests. BGSU will travel to Akron on Friday, then Buffalo on Saturday.
