BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - BGSU Post-Game Quotes
Head Coach Gregg Brandon
On when the decision was made to that Omar would not play:
"We knew since last Saturday that Omar would not play. And we will evaluate him again this week."
Thoughts on the goal line turnovers:
"They were the turning point in the game, especially the one early. We had a chance to get some points there and came away with nothing."
On creating opportunities:
"We didn't create enough turnovers and our defense didn't get us off the field a couple times and that made it difficult.
On BG's effective rushing game:
"We felt that we really needed to run the ball well to be standing in the end and I thought we did."
On the team in general:
"We are not a good tackling team. We are just not a very good football team right now, we are not very good fundamentally, but we will get it squared away."
"We had to have some of our seniors step up (with a young quarterback) and they didn't respond."
On Kent State:
"We are going to have to work really hard this week in practice to have a chance to win against Kent State next week."
With Omar out does the team feel any different?
"It doesn't matter who is playing for us, we go out as a group. We play as a team, it doesn't matter who's starting, and we are a team. We expect to get the job done as a team, so when we take a loss it's a team effort."
As a senior what can you do to right the way for these next few games?
"As a senior the most important thing to do is to keep our teammates up. At a time like this its easy to start putting your head down and feeling sorry for yourself. As seniors we have to be a group that keeps the team up, and the attitude positive. We know that we can still do the things we want to do if we go out there and win these last few games."
How was the defensive effort?
"We know that stopping the run is something we have been working on all season. There are times when we still need to pick it up, but that's not what beat us. There were many other mistakes that beat us."
How is the team feeling right now?
"Not good. We need to go back to the drawing board and start from scratch. We need to get rolling again, we need to build confidence, and we have a lot of things that we need to work on to win our next game."
Does your failure have to do with who's in?
"No it does not . We play as a team. Today we lost as a team, and I can't speak on personnel, I just can speak on my performance. To me I think we had the right personnel in, we just didn't get the job done."
Do you feel 100% healthy?
"I am not 100% yet, but I feel better then I have in previous weeks. I am still not 100% but close to it."
Talk about the fumble.
"I thought I reached the ball over the plain before it got knocked out, but that's not my decision. We have to fight through that and we have to play a good game to beat a good team."
What do you see different from when you guys were playing better earlier this year?
"I think we are lacking confidence. In previous games we go into them with confidence. This year after a couple of losses we are lacking that confidence so we are a very beatable team right now."
Were you seeing things and what was coming?
"I felt the rhythm of the game,. "Coach mixed the plays up a little, and it was good play calling. We just didn't execute when we needed to. Hats off to Akron they played a good game."
You had a week to prepare how did that affect you?
"Things don't always go to plan. You come out here with an idea of how they go, and they don't always go that way. After seeing how things went this week its back to the drawing board to get some things straightened out."
Akron Post Game Quotes
Head Coach J.D. Brookhart
"I think this was the type of game that we needed, the style of game we needed to win this football game. I don't think we wanted to get into a basketball type run-and-gun game today."
"The defense came out, even with some really devastating injuries the last few weeks and responded, everybody took care of their jobs, played with great energy and made some big stops."
"Offensively, we tried to control the football and keep it away from them. Take some opportunities here and there just to keep the game close and hold the ball a little bit. We took some shots, we had some success."
"I challenged our lineman to get some things done in the run game early in the week and they responded. We were able to do the things we needed to do to win the football game."
Speaking about LB Jay Rohr:
"He is a leader for us, he created a lot of synergy out their for our defense. They really started to play hard and well, really consistent football."
Speaking about RB Brett Biggs:
"He is going to get a lot of extra yards, he is that type of player. It's a real credit to the offensive line, they are why he did what he did. He is really hard to tackle, he has a very low center of gravity and the kid's nothing but effort."
"We had to run the ball today to have a chance. Between the offensive line, Brett (Biggs) and the receivers down field we did just that."
"I'd run the ball every play if I could. It's the safe way to do it, if you can get five yards a clip, keep moving it down there. My background is passing, but I like to run the ball."
Jay Rohr
Speaking about P.J. Pope fumble at the goal line:
"When they (Bowling Green) get in that situation of short and goal, it's the linebackers job to get to the ball carrier and I did, whoever came up with it, it's a good stop and a big play for our side."
Speaking about the fourth down play:
"I saw the receiver and the back come out and I just went with my instinct and another guy was there to make him cut back inside. I fit were I was supposed to fit and just made a play, lucky to be there."
"It's something (MAC East hunt) that we stressed this whole week. We knew we had a shot to be there. We have great leaders with myself, Luke (Getsy) and a few guys on this team and we stressed it the whole week. We knew coming in they were without their star but we still had to play hard and make play. That's something we did and we are pretty happy to be where we are."
Luke Getsy
"When they were blitzing, we felt like we had to get rid of it quick. When they weren't we had to be patient. There were a few times in third and longs where they dropped a lot of people. It was key to be patient, especially in situations like that."
"I love that kid (Biggs), I've never seen anybody with so much heart. People have probably been telling him he is too small, but he doesn't care, he is so tough. I call him "little man" out there because he is a man out there."
