Falcons Notch First ACC Win Since 1967

The following are some post-game notes after the Falcons defeated Virginia Tech, 72-71, in Blacksburg.
The Falcons won their road opener for the third time in Dan Dakich's nine seasons (1999-00 at Hawaii; 2001-2002 at Duquesne).
BGSU now leads the series with Virginia Tech, 2-1.
This was the Falcons' first game against an ACC opponent since playing at Clemson on November 27, 1981.
This was the Falcons' first win against the ACC since defeating Virginia on December 21, 1967.
The Falcon bench outscored the Hokie subs, 23-4.
BGSU improved to 22-3 when it has had to play defense with a one or two-point lead in the final minute since the 2001-02 season.
Last year, BGSU was 14-0 when scoring 70 points, and the Falcons scored 72 against the Hokies.
Saturday's win was the fourth for the Falcons by one point in the last two seasons (Toledo, 70-69; Ball State, 70-69; Miami, 57-56; Virginia Tech 72-71.)
Opponents are shooting just 37.6% in the first two games against the Falcons and 21.9% from three-point range.
Opponents also have 12 blocked shots to just one for the Falcons.
Six players have fouled out in two contests.
BGSU will play Radford, a 69-56 winner over Western Carolina today. Radford lost to Virginia Tech, 80-50 on Thursday.
Player Notes
Junior Martin Samarco scored a team-high 21 points and was six-of-six from the free throw line. He is averaging 16.5 points in the tournament.
Junior John Floyd came off the bench and had all 17 of his points in the second half, including the game-winner. He also had seven assists after having none against Western Carolina.
Freshman Erik Marschall made his first career start and had 11 points and eight rebounds. He is averaging 8.5 points and seven rebounds in the classic. He also nailed his first career three-pointer.
Senior Mawel Soler made all five of his field goals and had 10 points and five rebounds. He has made all seven of his field goal attempts this season after shooting 73.7% from the field last year.
Freshman Darryl Clements came off the bench and made three huge baskets and finished with six points in 25 minutes.
Junior Matt Lefeld had four points and led the team with nine rebounds. He is averaging nine points and a team-high 7.5 rebounds in the classic. He also has made eight of 12 free throw attempts.
Sophomore Perrick Robinson had three critical free throws in the second half.
