The following are quotes after Saturday's 24-14 win over Kent State.
Bowling Green Head Coach Gregg Brandon
"Our guys played lights out . Our defense stepped up and our kicking game came through at some key times. Our DBs were hitting like torpedoes. Offensively we did just enough to win the game and keep ourselves out of trouble (0 turnovers). Being able to finish after their turnovers gave us a chance to win the game. Our guys have focused this season and we're still playing for a championship."
"We needed our running game to step up, we talked about it all week, we were a little bit better in the second half, if they are going to play cover two and have seven in the box we have got to run the football. If you do not run the ball you are not going to be successful because its hard to drop back and throw it every time."
Quarterback Anthony Turner
"When you have the will to win you really don't feel anything." (referrring to playing in pain after suffering an injury)
Wide Receiver Corey Partridge
On his pass to P.J. Pope
"It was exciting, it brought me back to my high school days. I played
quarterback my senior year in high school. It was a lot of fun to do
something different, do something to help the team."
Linebacker Terrel White
"On defense, when you see some get a big hit you want to match it. It
gets you excited, it gets you wanting one and you try to do the same."
"Once we saw A.T. (Turner) go down we gathered around the defense and told each other that we had to win the game on this side of the ball."
Nose Guard Mike Thaler
"Today the mindset was do or die. If we had lost today the rest of the year we would be playing for pride."
"The play of our defense was good for our confidence and morale. It's just a good boost to go into next week."
Kent State Head Coach Doug Martin
"Like I told the team after the game I was really proud of the way they fought in that game. We've got a sign up in the tunnel that we see when we run out every game that says `Your character will be exposed on this field' today and I thought our character was exposed today and I loved what I saw. In spite of all the injuries, we had a lot more today, our kids refused to crack. They stay together, they play as a team, they play as a family and they're galvanizing together as a family. So they better enjoy playing us now because we aren't going to be much fun to play next year. The day of reckoning is coming and its coming fast. So we're going to keep plugging away and see what we can do in these last two and try to win them and I'm proud of the effort that we had today."
"As I told Michael along the sideline today, he grew up today at quarterback. I've been waiting for him to go out there and do exactly what he did today, to stand in there and not turn the ball over, and take it and he did that. The one interception he threw was tipped up in the air by our wide receiver. He led this football team today and that's big that he was able to step up and take that role. I know he wants to win games and score a lot of touchdowns but the way he played the game was the way a quarterback should. I've been saying all along that he has been taking steps and he took a giant one today."
