Falcons Are At Home
The Falcons begin a two-game homestand when they play Akron, Thursday night. BGSU also will host Ohio on Monday night. This begins a stretch of four games in nine days for the Falcons.
The Falcons hold a 23-10 lead in the series and defeated the Zips, 77-72, last season. In the last meeting at Anderson Arena in 2003, BGSU captured a 74-60 triumph.
BGSU is 73-16 at Anderson Arena since the 1998-99 season. BGSU is currently 7-1 at home this season. With three more home wins, BGSU will have won 10 games or more in six of the last seven years in "The House That Roars".
The Falcons are in their eighth season under head coach Dan Dakich. Dakich is second all-time at BGSU in winning percentage (.574) and fifth all-time in wins with a 128-95 record. He and his family were honored by the Red Cross prior to the NIU game for raising $1,777 for victims of the recent tsunami disaster overseas.
With a 77-58 MAC record, he ranks 11th all-time in conference game winning percentage and is 11th in MAC history in overall winning percentage. He also is one of just 19 MAC coaches to ever win 125 games or more at his institution and his 77 league rank 12th all-time in MAC history.
The Falcons lead the MAC and are ranked ninth in the country shooting 50.1% from the field this season. BGSU also ranks fifth in the nation and leads the league in assists at 17.8 per game. BGSU also leads the league in free throw shooting at 74.4%. The Falcons are second in blocked shots at 3.76 per game. The Falcons have taken a league-low 285 free throw attempts (16.7 per game).
BGSU senior's Josh Almanson and John Reimold make up the top scoring duo in the MAC averaging 34.9 points per game combined.
Almanson leads the MAC averaging 17.6 points on 61.1% (16th in the nation) shooting from the field. He also is eighth in the league in blocked shots (1.1). He had 16 points and three blocks against Central Michigan. He is the ninth most improved player in the country in scoring average adding 9.6 points per game to his total from a year ago. He has scored 936 points in his career and is looking to be the 34th player in BGSU history to score 1,000 points or more in a career.
Reimold is third in the MAC averaging 17.3 points, and ranks second in the league in field goal percentage (55.3%) and in three-point field goal percentage (50.5%). His three-point field goal percentage was seventh nationally last week. He has scored 1,539 points as a collegian (1,137 at BGSU and 402 at Loyola-Maryland as a freshman).
Scouting The Zips
Akron needs one more win to equal their 2003-04 total when they finished 13-15. Like so many teams in the MAC, the Zips have been dominant at home winning all nine of their games in Rhodes Arena.
On the road, UA is 3-6 this year and are coming off a 74-63 loss at Miami. The Zips are second in the league in field goal percentage defense allowing opponents to make just 41.7% of their field goal attempts.
Junior Darryl Peterson leads Akron averaging 15.6 points and 4.5 rebounds. Sophomore Romeo Travis is averaging 10.1 points and 7.2 rebounds.
