The Falcons have equaled their win total overall (14) and in the MAC (8) from last year.
The Falcons (4-3) are the only team in the MAC with a winning record on the road in league play. BGSU is 6-5 overall on the road.
BGSU has won two of the last three meetings at the MAC Center. BGSU and Miami are the only teams to have two wins on Kent State's home floor since the 2000-2001 season.
BGSU is 3-0 (Toledo, Ohio and at Kent State) when it is featured on the MAC TV Game of the Week. BGSU will host Miami on February 27 in a game that will be televised by the league.
Senior Josh Almanson became the 34rd player in school history to score 1,000 points or more with the Falcons. His looseball layup with 4:32 left in the game put him at 1,000 points and his three-pointer with one second on the shot clock at 3:01 gave-him a game-high 23 points. He also added nine rebounds. He has scored 1,003 points in his career as a Falcon.
Senior John Reimold had 19 points and four rebounds.
Junior Steven Wright had 15 points, seven assists and two steals. He is averaging 15 points in his last four games.
Sophomore John Floyd had nine points, three rebounds and five assists.
Freshman Perrick Robinson was once again a factor on the defensive end with one point, three defensive rebounds and two steals.
Freshman Scott Vandermeer made his third straight start and had six points, five rebounds and three blocked shots. He also made three of four field goal attempts. Since his insertion in the starting linuep, the Falcons have held opponents to 38.5% shooting from the field and 32.4% from long distance. In addition, the Falcons are outrebounding their opponents by +7.4 per game with "the Scott of Swat" in the lineup. He had 11 blocked shots this week.
Numbers Game
BGSU now leads the series with KSU, 76-61.
The Falcons improved to 18-3 over the last three-plus seasons when it has had to play defense with a one or two point lead in the final minute of a game. BGSU done that four times this season and has won all four games (at Marshall, Toledo, at Central Michigan, at Kent State).
The Falcons improved to 11-0 when scoring more than 70 points this season.
BGSU is 33-3 when shooting over 50% in a game since the 2000-01 season.
BGSU has outrebounded its opponent in eight straight games.
The Falcons tied their season-high with 32 free throw attempts (at Central Michigan).
The Game
The Falcons led the entire first half after a jumper by Reimold gave them a 6-5 lead with 17:17 left. The Falcons twice led by 13 at 21-8 on a dunk by junior Mawel Soler (7:14) and on a jumper by Almanson that made it 23-10 (6:42).
The Golden Flashes went on a 10-2 run to cut the lead to 25-20 with 4:57 to go before halftime. BGSU countered with a 10-4 run with 1:33 left and led 35-24 before KSU's Marcus Crenshaw drained a triple to make in BGSU 35, KSU 27 at halftime.
The Falcons built a double digit lead early in the second half with an Almanson jumper making it 41-28 with 16:50 to go. Trailing 43-31 with 15:31 in the game, KSU goes on a 16-1 run to pull ahead 47-44 with 12:47 left in the game.
The Falcons go on an 8-0 run to make it 52-47 on a conventional three-point play by Reimold with 10:37 left.
Kent State takes its last lead at 59-58 with 7:42 left on a three-pointer by Kevin Warzynski.
The game would be tied twice more with two Wright free throws with 3:53 left giving the Falcons the lead for good at 67-65.
BGSU made two defensive stops in the final minute to preserve a one-possession lead when Warzynksi missed a jumper with 46 seconds left (Robinson would make a free throw to make it 73-70) and when Jason Edwin missed a layup down three with 27 second left.
Floyd and Reimold would each make one free throw and following a three-pointer by Edwin to cut the lead to 75-73 with six seconds left, BGSU ended the game on a Reimold layup with one second left.
