CLEVELAND, Ohio - A few thoughts from the players and coach after Bowling Green State University's 77-57 win over Eastern Michigan University Friday afternoon (March 11), in the semifinal round of the 2005 Kraft Mid-American Conference Tournament...
BGSU HEAD COACH Curt Miller
"Today was a game of champions. To win today, you had to beat a champion. Eastern is the defending tournament champion, and we were the regular-season champions. Those were two championship programs going against one another, and to be a champion, you have to beat a champion."
"I'm really proud of our kids; our second half was tremendous. I thought we did a very good job of finally spreading them out. We have struggled to score against them (over the last few meetings), and we finally got them spread out. Our number-one key to the game was points in the paint, and we outscored them by 14 points in the paint. That (EMU) is a team the is just relentless in the paint, and does a very good job of getting the ball inside."
BGSU FRESHMAN Kate Achter
(On the Eagles' three-point field goal at the end of the first half)
"I knew it was kind of my fault, because I dribbled right out of bounds. It never should have happened in the first place, and I took it personally, took it to be my fault. I think it motivated us to play better defense in the second half. We knew that, even though it was a pretty spectacular shot, we couldn't let that happen in the second half."
BGSU SOPHOMORE Ali Mann
(On the mood at halftime)
"When we went into the lockerroom, everyone was very quiet, very focused. We knew that we had played a great first half of basketball. We hung with them, and gave ourselves a chance to come out in the second half and do what we do best. We were focused and ready to go."
