SEATTLE (AP) - Kendra Wecker, the Big 12 player of the year, scored 18 of her 25 points in the second half to lead fourth-seeded Kansas State past 13th-seeded Bowling Green 70-60 Saturday night in opening round of the NCAA tournament.
Laurie Koehn added 22 points on 6-of-13 shooting from 3-point range to get within three of the NCAA record held by Brigham Young's Erin Thorn, who had 391.
Kansas State (24-7) will face the winner of Saturday night's game between fifth-seeded Vanderbilt and 12th-seeded Montana in the second round of the Kansas City Regional Monday night.
Wecker played only 12 minutes in the first half after collecting two fouls in the first 7:35. She picked up her fourth foul at 7:55 to go and left the game with the Wildcats ahead 53-50.
She returned to finish 6-for-14 from the field and 12-for-12 from the free-throw line. She also led her team with 12 rebounds.
Liz Honegger led the Mid-American Conference champion Falcons (23-8) with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Ali Mann scored 13 points and Kate Achter added 10 for Bowling Green, which made its first tournament appearance since 1994.
The Falcons, which led 33-32 at halftime, had their six-game winning streak snapped.
Koehn made her sixth 3-pointer with 7:20 to go, followed by a three-point play by Twiggy McIntyre, before Wecker re-entered the game. Wecker made two free throws to put Kansas State ahead 61-52.
The Wildcats played without Megan Mahoney, a senior guard who ruptured her left Achilles' tendon in the Big 12 title loss to Baylor. Mahoney, the school's career assist leader, shouted encouragement from the bench.
