Falcons Travel To DeKalb For MAC Championships This Weekend (Mar. 25)

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Falcons, with a 7-11 overall and 3-3 Mid-American Conference record, travel to DeKalb, Illinois, for the 2005 MAC Championships hosted by Northern Illinois this weekend. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
FALCONS AS A TEAM
The Brown and Orange own the second highest MAC score of the season, posting a 196.100 back on February 18 versus Southeast Missouri State and Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Central Michigan ranks first with a team score of 196.725. The Falcons rank third on vault (48.650), beam (49.025) and floor (49.300), as well as second on the bars (49.125).
SCOUTING THE VAULT
Junior Jessica Guyer leads BGSU on the vault. She owns four of the top eight performances on the vault this season for the Falcons, including a career-best 9.825 set back on Feb. 18. Freshman Jayme Stambaugh is coming of her best performance with the Brown and Orange, also posting a 9.825 at the All-Ohio Championships last weekend. Her and Guyer rank eighth in the MAC on the vault.
BALANCE BEAM WILL PROVIDE SPARK
The Falcons have three gymnasts in the top 14 of the MAC with Guyer (9.850), freshman Jessica Ewart (9.850) and sophomore Bethany Kenel (9.825) leading the way. All three posted their season-best mark in the meet with SEMO. Junior Jessica Bradley has a season-best 9.800 on the beam this season, while senior Kristin DiPietro owns a 9.775.
ELSTE LEADS WAY ON BARS
Senior Kari Elste owns the top mark this season in the MAC with a 9.950 (set back on Feb. 18), which is also tied for the all-time BGSU mark. Elste is joined by Bradley and sophomore Sakura Tomita to provide much depth for the upcoming meet. Bradley owns five marks this season of 9.800 or higher, including a career-best 9.875 versus SEMO. Tomita has posted a 9.800 versus SEMO as well as a 9.775 versus Pittsburgh three weeks ago.
FLOOR EXERCISE IS ALWAYS EXCITING
BGSU fans have come to expect the floor exercise to be a very exciting event for the Falcons, and this season has been no different. Guyer ranks second in the MAC with a 9.950 and owns five first-place finishes this season on the floor. She is joined by DiPietro, who has surpassed the 9.900 mark three times this season, including a 9.900 versus Western Michigan. Sophomore Erin Coudriet posted a career-best 9.875 (which ranks 10th in the MAC) in the SEMO meet, and freshman Jacquelyn Bernhardt owns a season-best 9.800.
SENIORS LEAD THE ALL-AROUND
Seniors Breanne Metzger and DiPietro have been the only Falcons this season to compete in the all-around, both posting impressive scores. Metzger posted a career-high 38.925 (ranks fifth all-time in the BGSU record books), while DiPietro has a season-high 38.625 set versus NIU. DiPietro owns a career-best 38.975, set last season, which ranks fourth all-time for the Falcons.
