FULLERTON, Calif. - Whoever said that it never rains in Southern California (and it was one-hit wonder Albert Hammond, by the way*) was wrong. The Bowling Green State University softball team, in Fullerton, Calif., for the 2005 Worth Invitational, saw Friday's (March 4) opening game vs. the University of Minnesota postponed due to rains in the Southern California area. The teams will attempt to play that game at the end of Friday's originally-scheduled action.
The three-day, 10-team invitational was slated to begin at 9:00 a.m. locally (Noon Eastern) with the BGSU-Minnesota and Nevada-Pacific games. Those games have been rescheduled for 8:00 p.m. locally (11:00 p.m. Eastern) Friday night.
The next scheduled games, set to begin at 11:15 a.m. (2:15 p.m. Eastern) were slated to start on time. With the Minnesota game pushed back, BGSU's tourney opener is against Pacific, at 1:30 p.m. (4:30 p.m. Eastern).
* Music trivia: Singer/songwriter Albert Hammond is best remembered for his 1972 smash hit "It Never Rains in Southern California." During the mid-1960's, Hammond fronted the band Los Diamond Boys. After stints with several other bands, Hammond launched a solo career. "It Never Rains in Southern California" reached the U.S Top Five in late 1972.
