BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University cross country head coach Cami Wells has announced that three student-athletes will be joining the men's program next season. Eddie Kipchoge (Eldoret, Kenya), David Cline (Wayne, Ohio) and Brett Finnan (Lockport, NY) will be joining the Falcons for the 2005-06 academic year.
"I am very pleased to have the following young men joining us this fall," said head coach Cami Wells. "The addition of Eddie, Brett and David to the men's squad will add some much needed depth to the men's team. Eddie has the ability to step in and be a front-runner not only on the team but also in the conference. Brett and David are both coming in with very solid high school times and I expect them to be in a position to contend for spots in our top-seven this fall."
Eddie Kipchoge, Eldoret Kenya (Arnesens High School)
Kipchoge has a personal-best of 23:50 in the 8,000 meters, 14:24 in the 5,000 meters, 3:52.55 in the 1,500 meters and 1:51.09 in the 800 meters.
"I am very pleased to have Eddie joining us this fall," said Wells. "He has a very impressive running resume and is someone we can count on to come in and make an immediate impact. Having another front-runner along with Rogers Kipchumba will really help us take a big step toward our ultimate team goals.
David Cline, Wayne, Ohio (Elmwood High School)
Cline earned All-Ohio honors in cross country in 2003 after leading his team to a top-five finish in the 2003 D-III State Cross Country Meet. He is a three-time first-team All-SLL. He also served as team captain on both the cross country and track and field teams his senior year. He owns a personal-best of 16:21 in the 5,000 meters.
"It is always nice to have successful local athletes join the team," said Wells. David has run some competitive times while competing for Elmwood High School. David adds some additional depth to our squad, he will be looked upon to step in and contend for a traveling spot on the team this fall.
Brett Finnan, Lockport, NY (Lockport High School)
Finnan helped lead his team to a No. 16 ranking in the nation last season. He is a member of the National Honor Society and owns a personal-best of 16:30 for the 5,000 meters.
"Brett has been a key member of a highly successful High School Program in Lockport," said Wells. "I expect Brett's experience competing for one of the top ranked teams in the nation will help him as he makes the transition from high school to collegiate competition. I expect Brett will be in contention for a spot in our top seven this fall."
