BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University baseball team won their fourth straight Mid-American Conference matchup and have now won seven of their last eight contests overall after downing Buffalo 7-1 Friday afternoon at Warren Steller Field.
Pitching led the way throughout with sophomore Alan Brech (4-1) throwing six strong innings and scattering eight hits, while allowing only one run. Senior Matt Hundly tossed 2.1 innings to pick up his third save of the season, while allowing just two hits and striking out three.
BGSU got on the board first, with two runs in the second. Andy Hudak led off the inning with a walk and was followed by a single from Josh Stewart to left. Josh Dietz laid down a sacrifice to advance the runners to second and third before Bobby Majer hit a slow roller back to the pitcher that left everyone safe to plate the first run. Kevin Longstreth drove in the second run with a single to left to make the score 2-0.
A Buffalo homer made the score 2-1 in the top of the fifth, but Longstreth recorded his second RBI of the afternoon with a sacrifice fly to deep left field to bring home Tyler Wasserman who started the inning with a leadoff double.
The Falcons (19-7, 4-3) increased their lead to 7-1 with four runs in the bottom of the eighth. Eric Lawson led off the inning with a double and was brought around on a Nolan Reimold single. Three more hits by Hudak, Dietz, and Wasserman recorded the final three runs of the eighth and gave the Falcons a comfortable lead.
BGSU will get back to action tomorrow afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. showdown with these same Bulls from Buffalo at Warren Steller Field.
