BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Katie Krapf has joined the Bowling Green State University women's soccer program. Krapf, a goalkeeper, will join the Falcons from Long Beach (Calif.) City College, and the transfer will have two years of eligibility remaining.
During her two seasons at LBCC, Krapf helped the Vikings to a 42-0-1 record, two conference titles, and the 2003 state and national championships.
A native of Stockton, Calif. (St. Mary's H.S.), Krapf helped LBCC to a 20-0-1 record and No. 5 ranking in the final 2004 NSCAA/adidas Junior College Division III National poll. The Vikings closed the 2003 season ranked No. 1 in that poll.
In 2004, LBCC won the first 20 matches of the year before a scoreless tie in the state championship semifinals. The 2003 team went a perfect 22-0 against college teams, winning the state (COA California Community College) championship for a fourth consecutive year. Krapf made a pair of saves in relief in that year's title game. That '03 team's only loss came in exhibition play to the Argentina National Team.
Other than in that exhibition vs. Argentina, Krapf never allowed a goal in her entire tenure at LBCC. She played 280 minutes in 2004 and a total of 600 minutes in her career, with a perfect goals-against average of 0.00.
Prior to LBCC, Krapf attended Birmingham Southern College, sitting out the 2002 season as a redshirt. Krapf helped her high school to three league championships, with a career GAA of just 0.25. She was a first-team all-conference selection as a senior.
Krapf also played club ball with the California Cougars U-19 Premier Team from 1998-2002, helping that team to a 200-10-8 record and 48 Elite/Premier tournament titles.
"Katie's addition to the program will add depth and experience to the goalkeeper position," said BGSU head coach Andy Richards. "Having already played two years of collegiate soccer, her experience will hold her in good stead. We spent a long time recruiting her against some strong competition. She is a great player and a great person, and we are very excited to have her become a Falcon."
Krapf's addition gives the Falcons nine newcomers for the 2005 season. Last month, Richards and his staff announced the signing of seven student athletes -- Amanda Campbell (Cincinnati, Ohio), Brianne Eisenhard (West Chester, Ohio), Susan Hunter (Sidney, Ohio), Kristin McDonald (Troy, Ohio), Meredith Repke (Naperville, Ill.), Corbie Yee (Berea, Ohio) and Christy Zabek (Hendersonville, Tenn.). Additionally, Karie Sahly (Naperville, Ill.), a transfer from Valparaiso University, will join the Falcon program for the 2005 season.
The Falcons finished the 2004 season with an overall record of 10-12-2, including a 5-5-2 mark in Mid-American Conference play. The Falcons, seeded eighth for the league tournament, won the title and advanced to the NCAA Championships for the first time in school history.
