FALCON FUTBOL FACTS
• The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team had a stellar season in 2025. Head coach Chris Fox and the Falcons set a school record for fewest losses in a full season and advanced to the championship match of the Mid-American Conference Tournament for a MAC-record 11th time.
• BGSU posted an overall record of 10-3-9, and went 4-1-7 in MAC regular-season action. A few highlights from the 2025 campaign...
>> The Falcons set a school record for fewest losses in a season (other than the spring 2021 season, which was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
>> BGSU's loss total tied for 10th-lowest in the nation in 2025. The Falcons also set (non-COVID) records for fewest goals allowed in a season (13) and lowest goals-against average in a season (0.59).
>> Of the 350 NCAA Division-I programs, the Falcons were the only team to go the entire season without ever allowing more than one goal in a match.
>> BGSU was unbeaten in true road games for the first time in program history, going 4-0-4.
>> Sophomore goalkeeper Payton O'Malley was ranked in the top-10 in the nation in goalie minutes played (seventh, first in the MAC) and GAA (eighth, first in the MAC), and she also finished in the top-30 in the country in save percentage (28th, second in the MAC).
>> Junior Emma Stransky was tied for the MAC lead in game-winning goals, with four, and ranked among the top-50 players in the nation in that category. She had eight goals and 17 points on the season, tying for third in the MAC in goals while ranking eighth in the conference in points.
THE 2025 FALCONS: A CLOSER LOOK *
I – The Falcons finished the 2025 season with an overall record of 10-3-9 (.659). BGSU ended the year with the fewest losses in school history, as well as the third-highest winning percentage in program history (not counting the COVID-19 season). BGSU went 6-1-1 in the abbreviated Spring 2021 season, but until now, the Falcons have never lost fewer than five matches in a full season. The 2025 season was the 29th in the history of the program, which began in 1997.
II – Head coach Chris Fox and Company lost just once in a 19-match span that began in mid-August and lasted until the championship match of the Mid-American Conference Tournament. BG put together a school-record 13-match unbeaten streak between 1-0 home losses to Illinois (Aug. 17) and Ball State (Oct. 19). The Falcons' only other setback all year also came by a 1-0 score, vs. Western Michigan in the MAC Tournament final (Nov. 7).
III – BGSU's total of three losses was tied for the 10th-lowest in the nation in 2025. The Falcons set school records for fewest goals allowed in a season (13) and lowest goals-against average in a season (0.59) – again, not counting the COVID-shortened Spring 2021 campaign).
IV – The Falcons were unbeaten in true road games for the first time in school history, going 4-0-4. The aforementioned Spring 2021 team was 2-1-0 on the road, and every other BGSU team had at least three road losses.
V – Sophomore Payton O'Malley and the BGSU defense had a spectacular season. The Falcons were the only NCAA Division-I team in the entire nation that did not allow more than one goal in any game this season.
VI – O'Malley led the MAC in goalie minutes played and GAA, and was among the top-10 'keepers in the country in both categories. She was seventh in the nation in goalie minutes played (2004:42) and eighth in GAA (0.58). O'Malley finished second in the MAC and 28th in the nation in save pct. (.840).
VII – O'Malley's 0.58 GAA this season is the second-lowest in school history, and her eight complete-match shutouts tie her for second on that BGSU single-season list. O'Malley currently has the lowest career GAA in program history (0.87).
VIII – The Falcons went 4-1-7 in MAC regular-season play, with the wins coming against Kent State (2-1), Central Michigan (4-0), Northern Illinois (1-0) and Massachusetts (3-1). BGSU, as mentioned, lost to BSU, and the Falcons tied everyone else. The Falcons played to 1-1 draws against Ohio, WMU, Eastern Michigan, Miami and Akron, and BG battled to scoreless stalemates at both Toledo and Buffalo. Overall, BG went 5-2-4 in home games and 4-0-4 in road contests during the regular season.
IX – The Falcons were the number-six seed for the six-team MAC Tournament, and advanced past the third and second seeds, respectively, on the way to the final. BGSU posted a 1-0, double-overtime win over Buffalo in the quarterfinal round (Nov. 1), as junior Ella Kane made an impressive run into the penalty area and found classmate Isabella Mazzaferro for a one-time finish in the 107th minute. Then, BGSU battled Miami to a scoreless, double-OT draw in the semifinals (Nov. 4), before O'Malley saved two MU penalty kicks as BG advanced to the final, 4-3, via PKs. BG, as mentioned, fell to top-seeded WMU by a 1-0 score in the title match.
X – Through the 2025 season, the Falcons are now 22-10-9 all-time in MAC Tournament matches. Mazzaferro's goal vs. Buffalo was BGSU's fourth "Golden Goal" in a league tournament contest in program history, and the first in 18 years.
XI – BGSU has the most wins (22, tied for first with Miami), the most championships (six) and the second-highest winning percentage (.646) among MAC teams in league tournament action.
XII – BGSU has now advanced to the championship match of the league tournament a total of 11 times, a MAC record. Western Michigan is second on that list, having made it to the final eight times.
XIII – Nine of BGSU's MAC Tournament matches have required penalty kicks, and the Falcons have advanced past the opponent on seven of those nine occasions. That means BG has advanced (via outright win or PK's) 29 times in 41 total MAC Tournament contests.
XIV – Junior Emma Stransky led the Falcons in scoring, with eight goals and 17 points on the year. She scored four game-winning goals this season to date, tying for first in the MAC. Junior defender Gabby Lamparty had nine points to rank second on the team, while sixth-year collegian Ellie Pool had eight points and juniors Lizzie Bultynck, Emme Butera and Mazzaferro seven apiece. Butera paced the Falcons with five assists, while Pool had four.
XV – O'Malley, a sophomore, started all 22 matches in goal, and had 68 saves, a goals-against average of 0.58 and a save percentage of .840. As mentioned earlier, she led the entire MAC in GAA and ranked second in save pct.
XVI – Butera, Lamparty and Stransky all were named to the All-MAC First Team, while Minah Syam was chosen to the MAC's All-Freshman Team. Stransky (third team) and Butera (fourth team) each were named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region Team as well.
XVII – A total of 26 different players saw action this season, with 21 Falcons having made at least one start. Three players – Butera, Lamparty and O'Malley – each started all 22 games, while Stransky and redshirt junior Jayna Searles started 21.
XVIII – All of 2025's success came after BGSU finished the 2024 campaign with an overall record of 7-7-4 and a MAC ledger of 4-4-3, good for sixth in the league. Fox and his '25 staff – first-year assistants Steven Samuel and Kyle Pettican – were joined by a total of 20 returning student-athletes, including seven starters from the '24 season.
XIX – For what it's worth, the Falcons shattered the school records for most ties in a season, both overall and in conference matches, in 2025. BGSU played to nine draws, tied for the second-highest total in the nation. The Falcons' previous record for most ties in a season was five. In MAC play, the Orange and Brown tied seven times, obliterating the previous record of three.
XX – With career totals of 15 goals and 36 points, Stransky has moved into the top 20 on both BGSU lists. After three years as a Falcon, she is for 14th in career goals and sits in 18th place on the career points list. And, with nine career game-winning goals as a Falcon, Stransky is tied for second in school history.
