BGSU Men's Golf Set for 2005 MAC Championships

The Mid-American Conference Men's Golf teams head to Westerville, Ohio for the 2005 MAC Golf Championships at The Medallion Club. The University of Akron will host the three-day tournament that will begin competition with 36 holes on Thursday, May 5 followed by 18 holes on Friday, May 6 and the final 18 holes on Saturday, May 7. A total of 10 MAC schools will be represented in the competition.
BGSU finished sixth last season at the MAC Championships, the highest finish for the Falcons since finishing sixth in 2001 and 2000. Kent State has won the MAC title in 10 of the last 13 years with Toledo (2002, 2004) and Miami (1996) the only other schools to win the crown.
Junior Heath Ziglar leads the Falcons with a 75.07 average in 28 rounds. He has registered two top-20 finishes in his last two tournaments, including a season-low 54-hole score of 215 at the Marshall Invitational, April 8-9.
Junior Chris Leake is second on the squad with a 75.64 average in 28 rounds, including a career and team-low round of 67 on April 8 at the Marshall Invitational. He finished 12th at the tournament with a career-best 54-hole score of 212.
Following the two juniors is senior Craig Pickerel who has an average of 76.18 in 22 rounds of golf. Pickerel finished 19th in 2004 at the MAC Championships. Junior Dan McIntyre (77.26 avg., 19 rounds), freshman Jace Walker (79.36 avg., 22 rounds) and sophomore Brad Dearsman (78.31 avg., 13 rounds) round out the top six Falcons.
Throughout the three-day tournament results and recaps will be posted on the Akron and MAC websites. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Central Regional in South Bend, Ind. May 19-21
