Detroit, Michigan - The Mid-American Conference News Media Association (MACNMA) has picked Bowling Green to win the MAC East Division and capture the MAC Championship game in 2005. There were 42 ballots cast and the Falcons received 30 first place votes to 12 for Miami when deciding who would come out on top in the East Division. BGSU was chosen by 22 members to win the MAC title game, while Toledo received 10 votes, Miami six and Northern Illinois four votes.
"We're excited about the expectations surrounding our program," said third-year coach Gregg Brandon. "Our profile nationally continues to grow and we hope that will energize our fan base to support our team home and away."
The Falcons (37-12) have the MAC's best record since 2001 and are one of 15 teams to win back-to-back bowl games the last two seasons. BGSU defeated Memphis, 52-35, in the 2004 GMAC Bowl. Junior All-American quarterback Omar Jacobs leads a list of 12 returning starters from last season. He passed for 4,002 yards and threw a national-best 41 TDs.
BGSU opens its home season October 1 against Temple. To purchase season tickets, contact the BGSU Athletic Ticket Office, at 877-BGSU Ticket.
