Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University Director of Athletics Paul Krebs and Clear Channel Radio Lima Vice President/Market Manager Art Versnick have announced the addition of WVKO-AM 1580 in Columbus to the Bowling Green State University Football Radio Network for the 2005 season. The agreement gives BGSU a presence in 11 markets in Ohio, the largest number of any MAC program.
"We are thrilled to add WVKO to the network," said Versnick. " It has been the goal from the beginning of our relationship with BGSU to create a radio footprint that covers not only Northern Ohio but other parts of the state. Columbus is a great city for college football and this gives BG football radio coverage in the #1 and #3 markets in Ohio".
Clear Channel Lima and WPFX in Findlay (107.7 FM) begin their third year as the radio flagship home for the BGSU football and men's basketball programs. Todd Walker, associate sports director at Clear Channel Lima, will begin his third year as the play-by-play voice on BGSU broadcasts. Former BGSU running back John Gibson is slated to serve as game analyst. Gibson played for the Falcons from 1998-2001 and rushed for 1,199 yards and 10 TDs in his career. Jason Aldrich, program director at WTTF in Tiffin, returns as the sideline reporter. Aaron Matthews will serve as pre-game and post-game host and will handle the producer's role. The pre-game show begins one hour prior to kickoff. A one-hour weekly coaches show featuring Coach Gregg Brandon from Fricker's in Bowling Green begins each Monday at 6 p.m.
"We are excited about the continued growth of our radio network," said Krebs. "Being in the Columbus market will allow us to reach a number of alumni, fans and friends who are extremely supportive of our program."
