BGSU scored over 40 points for the eighth consecutive game, and the 14th time in the 27-game Gregg Brandon head-coaching era.
The Falcons took 30 minutes to accomplish what it took six teams to do last year -- score 35 points against the Badgers. Through six games a year ago, the Badgers had allowed 39 points on the season.
BGSU scored a touchdown on its opening drive for the eighth straight game dating to last year.
The Falcons set a school record last year, averaging 506.3 yards per game. That trend has continued through the first game of 2005, as the BGSU offense put up 531 yards vs. the Badgers.
Freshman Corey Partridge had his first career TD catch, a 17-yarder from junior Omar Jacobs. Partridge also had the first two-point conversion during Gregg Brandon's three-year tenure, catching a pass from Jacobs in the second quarter.
The Falcons started two running backs, seniors P.J. Pope and B.J. Lane, for the first time since the 2000 season. It was Lane's first career start.
Junior Omar Jacobs completed 30 of 51 passes for a career-high 458 yards. It marked the seventh consecutive game, and the ninth time in the last 10 games, that he has surpassed 300 yards through the air. Jacobs has thrown for 275 or more yards in each of the Falcons' last 12 games.
Jacobs now has two career games of 400-plus yards through the air. His previous career high was 415 yards at Toledo last November.
Jacobs threw five touchdown passes, tying his career high. Jacobs has now thrown five TD passes three times in his last four games, having also turned the trick vs. Marshall and Memphis (GMAC Bowl) last season.
Jacobs has thrown at least four TD passes in nine career games, including each of the last five.
Jacobs completed all five of his passes on the opening drive. In the first half alone, Jacobs was 20 of 29 with 4 TD passes and 305 yards.
Jacobs now has a total of 50 career TD passes, ranking third on the school list. Brian McClure holds the BG record with 63 TD tosses, while Josh Harris had 55.
For the first time in school history, three different players had over 100 yards receiving in the same game.
Partridge, in his first game, had a whopping 160 yards receiving, on eight catches. The Falcons had three receivers top the 100-yard mark, as senior Charles Sharon had eight catches for 116 yards, and classmate Steve Sanders caught six balls for a total of 127 yards.
Lane scored on an 18-yard shovel pass from Jacobs. It was his first career TD catch and tied the longest reception of his career. Lane also added a five yard scoring run giving him two TDs in a game for the first time in his career.
The Falcons outscored Wisconsin, 13-0, in the first quarter. BGSU led the nation last season with 184 points in the opening quarter.
Sanders had a 63-yard TD reception, the longest scoring catch of his career. He followed that up with a 10-yard scoring reception to even the score at halftime. He also had the sixth 100-plus yard receiving effort of his career.
