MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Quoting Bowling Green State University women's basketball coach Curt Miller, after the Falcons' 57-52 win at Central Michigan University Wednesday night (Jan. 25) ...
"I haven't had so much anxiety before a game all year. I know people might have a hard time believing that, but I have so much respect for Central and the way they defend and make you earn every basket. And so, for us to gut it out after giving up a 10-point lead late, to make those plays at the end, on the road is just a credit to this team."
(On BGSU's responding after CMU's game-tying 10-0 run)
"I'm very, very proud. If we haven't had the (past) success that we have, I think we lose that game. But, this team is competitive and hates to lose. We worked on that play all week in preparation for Central, and hardly got it the whole game. Finally, when we needed it, it was open. And for Liz (Honegger), to her credit, that is a huge shot on the road."
(On getting wins on the road)
"Any win on the road is big. It can be the difference between championships and runner-up or lower finishes. Central really makes you earn it; their record in conference is definitely deceiving. We are the sixth-straight team that they have held under 60 points (to begin MAC play)."
(On the play of the BGSU bench)
"Ironically, we really challenged the bench before the game; it was a key. We hadn't been getting much point production, and I asked the bench players if we could come up with multiple players with over four points tonight. And, sure enough, (Lindsey) Goldsberry had five, Casey (McDowell) had eight, Jasmine (McCall) played a great game with no turnovers, and Amber (Flynn) went in and battled."
(How does this win help you prepare for the rest of the season?)
"It teaches us a lot about ourselves. We have to get better and better; there are still a lot of weaknesses. We held them to 52 points, but still didn't get as many stops as I would have hoped. This team is now 1-5 in the league, and we had to go to the buzzer to beat them. The West Division swing is a brutal stretch, and we still have five very, very tough games ahead of us."
