Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team will hold its first official practice on Friday. On Thursday, Coach Dakich and the squad were available to the media. Tomorrow night, the Falcons will hold a free public scrimmage at 9 p.m.
BGSU Coach Dan Dakich
"The guys that are here have been told about the commitment that they were going to make to be here, academically and every other way. I've been really happy with what they've done."
"With the season right here it gives everybody a chance to no longer worry about what transpired last year, instead it gives everybody the opportunity to get better for this year. And to me that is very exciting."
"The freshmen are really mature guys. There are going to be a lot of, if not all the freshmen, playing a lot because of their maturity."
On the addition of freshman Brandon Bland late in the summer
"After looking at a number of kids, junior college, prep school, everything else, we came up with Brandon (Bland) as the total package. He has maturity, academics, he was good enough to make the Kentucky-Indiana All-Star game."
On the team's attitude and work ethic
"You don't have to coach attitude, you just have to simply coach with this group and whenever we've had that, we've had good seasons."
"There are times when you coach where a 40-minute workout seems like forever, and you just want it over. With this team, I want it to go for two hours, they give you everything they have, they just go all-out, no sulking, they just play."
Martin Samarco
"We got guys that want to be here, we are a team and we all have the same goal, trying to win a MAC championship."
"I think this summer has been important in building team unity and a togetherness that will help us become a better team."
Erik Marschall
"We're real excited and looking forward to the new season. We got something to prove after what happened last year. Guys just can't stop talking about this new year."
"I think we are a team that is becoming closer. We have spent a lot of time together and I think the new guys have blended in well."
Darryl Clements
"This year we are going to play a lot better. We have a more mature team, we all know how each other plays this year."
"We just have to play hard and get the most out of our abilities."
