KALAMAZOO, MI - Despite notching an early lead on the host Broncos, the BGSU Falcons defense allowed two unanswered Western Michigan scores in their 2-1 loss to close the regular season. After wining their first outing in August, BGSU went 3-13-1 and had a 0-5-0 conference record. WMU recorded their third MAC victory with the win and finish the season at 6-11-1 and 3-2-0.
Freshman Jacob Lawrence score at the 3:53 mark was his first collegiate goal. Prior to today's match, Lawrence had taken three shots all season. Sophomore George Davis IV's assist tied Ryan Perea's team high three assists this season.
The match was evened out in the 22nd minute when WMU's Tom Oatley scored his sixth goal of the season.
The score was not the only even statistic at the intermission. The squads each had nine shots, three of which were saved by the respective keepers. At the end of the 90 minutes, both BGSU's Paul Shoemaker and WMU's Casey Aubil chalked-up six saves in the match.
The host Bronco's Terry Dowding struck with the game winning goal at 78:22.
WMU's offense narrowly out shot the Falcons 8 to 7 on goal and 19 to 13 total, respectively. Davis IV led all Falcons with two shots on goal.
Dependant on the outcome of today's final conference match-ups, the Falcons could travel to Akron, Buffalo or Western Michigan for Tuesday's play-in match of the conference tournament.
