DELAWARE, Ohio - For the first time since 1982 on the men's side and 1995 on the women's side, Bowling Green had a men's and women's Division I All-Ohio Cross Country Champion. Friday, Kipchoge, crossing the line with a time of 25:30, was the number outstanding men's runner as he claimed both the individual title and the Division I title. Roflow, crossing with a time of 18:24, finished second overall but was the top Division I runner.
"I thought Eddie ran a smart race," said head coach Cami Wells. "He got out quick and stayed strong throughout the race. This was his first time on the All-Ohio course with some very tough competition and I thought he did very well. Jamie too ran a smart race. She had some great competition with most of the Ohio schools running today and I am very proud of her."
Behind Roflow was Kim Settle, who managed to close the gap between themselves to just six seconds. Settle finished second in the Division I race with a time of 18:30.
"Kim ran an outstanding race. She and Jamie have been working really hard at practice in keeping up with each other and that work showed today on the race course."
As for the rest of the varsity squad competing in the seeded race, Stephanie Hillman was next finishing 24 with a time of 19:35. Behind Hillman was Carly Bates, crossing 35 in 19:56. Kara Butler rounded out the top five in 40 place in a time of 20:00. The final two Falcons were Bridget Dalic (41; 20:04) and Andrea Pollack (46;20:34).
"The women did a nice job today. We knew coming into this that Ohio and Ohio State were going to be very tough to beat, but we still went out there and competed well. Our goal was to finish better than last year's fourth place finish and we did that. We are looking forward to racing against them again and getting the chance to close the gap between our third, fourth, and fifth runner."
With Kipchoge finishing first, the rest of the Falcons had a tough act to follow but did a good job at competing together. Brad Wells was the second Falcon across the line in a time of 27:40. Edgar Ramirez was next in a time of 27:56. The final three were Rogers Kipchumba (28:23), Kevin Kaighin (30:42), and Kyle Kilbane (32:07).
"I thought the men did a nice job today in competing together. Now we're just going to focus on getting everyone a little bit closer together so that we are more competitive. Eddie and Edgar ran great races."
The women not competing in the seeded varsity race competed in the open race with the following results: Kylie Korsnack (20:18), Andrea Pereira de Almeida (20:59), Lindsay (21:06), Emily Gallagher (21:28), Lauren Zielke (21:39), Angela (21:57) and Katy Senn (22:11).
The Falcons will return home next Saturday for the Falcon Invitational with over 20 institutions competing.
