EVANSTON, Ill. - Sophomore Stefanie Menoff picked up a singles title as the Bowling Green State University tennis team completed play at the Wildcat Invitational Sunday (Oct. 8). The three-day, 11-team tournament was hosted by Northwestern University.
Menoff defeated her Falcon teammate, freshman Katia Babina, in the championship match at the fourth singles flight. Menoff captured that match by a 6-0, 6-4 score. Babina had downed Indiana State's Maria Caujolle, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, in her semifinal match.
Several other Falcons played consolation matches on Sunday. The complete list of BGSU's weekend results is below.
The Falcons acquitted themselves well against some stern competition. Menoff went 4-0 in weekend singles play, while Babina and fellow freshman Samantha Kintzel each were 3-1. Sophomore Libby Harrison was 2-1 in singles action at the Wildcat Invitational.
In doubles play, the team of sophomore Kelsey Jakupcin and junior Jenna Nussbaum posted a 3-2 weekend record, while the tandems of Kintzel/Menoff and junior Andrea Volle/senior Erica Wolfe each went 2-1.
The Wildcat Invitational was the last fall tournament for the Falcons as a team. Selected BGSU players will wrap up the fall season at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships (Oct. 19-24 in East Lansing, Mich.).
