BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -
Coach Gregg Brandon
On the thinking in the last minute of the game inside the 10 yard line
"Well, we were trying to score. The third down call was a pass in the end zone and they covered it. We told Anthony [Turner] if it wasn't open to throw it away so we could have time to kick the field goal because we didn't have a timeout. And that's what he did."
On the disappointment of losing the game after fighting hard
"It's huge. It's the worst loss I've experienced as a coach or an assistant coach in a long time without a doubt. We just had guys play their guts out."
On Sean Ellis trying to rebound
"He's got to rebound from that. He doesn't have a choice. He's a Division I kicker and he'll have his ups and downs. He'll have some great opportunities in his career and I think he's got to be able to handle the good times and bad times and treat them the same."
On weather conditions playing a factor in the game
"There is no answers for that. For the offense to move that ball down there with the throws that we made and the catches that we made in those conditions late, that was impressive."
"Anthony [Turner] did a good job of engineering that and getting us down there and we just came up a play short."
On not getting great field position in the second half
"We struggled in the second half to make first downs and that was disappointing because we had run the ball decent in the first half on occasion. In the second half we just couldn't seem to move the ball and find a rhythm and I don't know if that was so much what Miami was doing or the conditions, but we couldn't get it going. "
"That third quarter we squandered a lot of opportunities I think and we had the wind the whole quarter and we didn't exploit it."
Terrel White
"Those kind of conditions are ideal for defenses. It's fun to run around and play in the mud."
"As a defense you just try to stay up as much as possible. Keep giving the offense the ball as many times as you can."
"It's real hard to lose your last home game. You will never forget your last home game, so when you look back you will always have a sour taste in your mouth."
Derrick Markray
"It's very emotional. I remember just five years ago walking into this place, and now tonight will be my last time ever playing in this place again. So many memories, so many good times, so many bad times, its just hard to believe. Very emotional to walk out on the field one last time."
Miami Head Coach Shane Montgomery
Opening Statement
"It's one of those games that obviously we are thrilled with the win because we have lost a number of those games this year. It felt like we finally got a break but we make our breaks at the end of the game. As bad as that game was last year, this was twice as bad, just conditions, you know it's tough you play your hearts out and you have their kicker go out there and try and get some footing. The field is a mess; he probably has a 10-percent chance of making the field goal."
On the season
"I am proud of the way our guys played hard. We have had a lot of tough breaks this year, we lost a lot more football games this year than we have in the past, but our kids have never quit. I think that was evident tonight. We still hurt ourselves a little bit offensively where we left a few points out on the board and really if we didn't muff the extra point and we get a snap and kick the field goal they have to score a touchdown at the end of the game so that was a little disappointing. I was just proud as the guys hung in there. There had been a lot of adversity out there and I am so glad of the way we played defense."
"You have to give Bowling Green credit because they went out there and drove the ball to give themselves a chance to win. Obviously it's a huge win for us as we finish this season on a disappointing season, but you feel bad for Bowling Green because of the condition. It's one of those games where I thought both teams gave it their best and it's tough that someone had to lose that game."
Strategy with Timeouts
"You get to the point down there and we have had it happen the past two weeks where you think about calling some timeouts in case they happen to score so you would have some time when you get the ball back but with the conditions, and the way they were with us having to go to the long field with a minute so we let them run the time down and we had a couple timeouts at the end. And honestly, with the conditions I don't know if we really iced the kicker but maybe we made him think a little more about it."
Miami Player Quotes
Ryne Robinson
On 3rd place in career receiving yards in the MAC
"It means a lot now that we have won ourselves a game. I am just happy the guys played today throughout the conditions we were able to make a couple big plays here and there and it came down to the last second like it has been the past five or six games. I just think it means a lot more now that we finally got the chance to win a game."
Mike Kokal
On winning in the rainy conditions
"It means a ton, you know they got us last year, they embarrassed us on national television, some of the same weather without the mud. You know it was just good for our program. Neither team was playing for anything, as far as MAC Conference wise but each team has a lot of pride and it's a big rivalry game between the two teams. It just kick starts into next year and with us being able to win like that, the way we did and the conditions like we had it means a ton and get in and get into next week and see OU and go from there."
Clayton Mullins
On the missed field goal and the BG drive at the end of the game
"We had a few mistakes on that drive; we had a big fourth down penalty. We had several missed tackles on that drive that kept them in the game and we were leaving them out there and then we kind of held our own there at the end and kept them out of the end zone. It was unfortunate for them but great for us we held him there and made him miss it."
