Falcon Futbol Faces Akron in Semifinal Match

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Sixth seed Bowling Green State University has advanced to the semifinal round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament after defeating third seed Western Michigan University 2-1 in Kalamazoo, Michigan on Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons have now set their sites on second seed Akron in Friday's semifinal match-up in DeKalb, Illinois on the campus of top seed Northern Illinois University.
Bowling Green will play in the first of a two match semifinal series at 11:30 a.m. CST. In the second game, fourth seed Buffalo will take-on tournament host Northern Illinois at 2:00 p.m CST.

The University of Akron Zips
Since joining the MAC in 1993, UA has won or shared nine regular season MAC titles...this season the Zips share the crown with Northern Illinois...the Blue and Gold has won the MAC tournament four times (1998, 2002, 2004, 2005)...UA finished the season at 12-4-1 and were 4-1-0 in conference games.

In a conference history dating back to 1993, BGSU has won three regular season titles (1996, 2000, 2002)...the Orange and Brown also have three regular season runner-up finishes in 1993, 1995, and 1997...historically, the Falcons have competed in eight of twelve MAC tournament championships games...BGSU has claimed three championship titles...the Falcons are also five time runners-up...the Orange and Brown are 4-13-1 this season and posted a 0-5-0 conference record.

The two squads have faced each other six times in the conference tournament...each have won three games...the Zips have outscored the Falcons 9-6 in tournament matches...BGSU has shut out Akron in each of their three tournament wins...the Birds of Prey have played the Zips on four separate occasions in the MAC Championship match...the teams sit even at two wins apiece.
