Coach Gregg Brandon
Was being down 21-0 early a little too much to overcome?
"Yeah we were fighting uphill most of the night. I'll give coach [Tom] Amstutz and Toledo credit they did a nice job. They got up on us and held the lead and it was tough sledding all night. But my kids battled. They battled hard and it's been a grind this season. I just don't there is much gas left in the tank right now."
On the decision to take Turner out and put him back on
"We had talked about that all season. He's sputtered and been erratic, but in the second half he stepped it up and made nice throws and our receivers, [Corey] Partridge in particular, made some great catches to keep some drives alive and keep us in the football game."
On the defense trying to control Toledo's running game and giving some big runs
"Yeah we had some problems. We were pressuring them and anytime you do that you have a chance to get creased and we were caught out of our gaps on occasion and they popped some runs on us. But they had done that and we'd seen that on film and we figured that was the best way to stop them, to try and run blitz and a couple of times it cost us."
About the big performance by Corey Partridge
"I thought he was outstanding. He had a great game. He's a competitor, I mean he can catch balls with guys whacking him and he runs great routes. The punt return really set us up and I'm glad to have him back for two years."
On his performance
"They ran a lot of no deep man-to-man coverage bringing blitzes. It gave me a lot of time to just work 1-on-1 and when you only got one guy to beat and you know where you're going and he doesn't it makes it pretty easy for you."
What was the difference tonight in the outcome?
"We made too many mistakes. We were put in a good position to win. The coaches were calling the right plays, but we made too many mistakes on the field. As they add up they can be little things, but as they add up it ends up killing you."
On the effectiveness of the Toledo run game
"I feel that their effectiveness really kind of dictated the game. They were able to establish a good running game and they were able to basically do what they wanted to do."
