No Change for Falcons in National Polls

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team held its spot in both of this week's national polls. The Falcons, 8-2 on the season, remain 21st in the USA Today/ESPN Top-25 poll and 25th in the Associated Press rankings.
The Falcons are ranked in the USA Today/ESPN Division I Coaches poll for the fifth consecutive week, and BG is 21st in that poll for the third-straight Tuesday. BGSU broke into the rankings on Nov. 28, with a placing of 24th, and the Falcons were tied for 22nd in the country in the next week's poll (Dec. 5).
The Falcons' current run of five consecutive weeks in that poll ties the school and Mid-American Conference longevity records. That record was set by last year's BG club, which was ranked in the USA Today/ESPN poll from Feb. 14 to March 13, 2006.
This marks only the fourth time in MAC history that a league school has had a run of at least three consecutive weeks in the top 25. Three of those instances have been in the USA Today poll, with the other in the Associated Press listing, but the Falcons have been that MAC team on all four occasions.
The Falcons, as mentioned, are ranked 25th in the AP poll for the second consecutive week. Despite splitting two games last week, the Brown and Orange gained points in each poll. The Falcons went from 73 to 99 points in the AP poll and from 144 to 173 points in the USA Today/ESPN voting.
BGSU was ranked in each of the two polls last year, marking the program's first appearance in a national poll in 12 years, and the first appearance for a MAC program in over four years.
The Falcons' highest-ever ranking was 19th, in the final Associated Press poll of the 1992-93 season (March 16, 1993), capping a run of four-straight weeks in that poll, the longest such run prior to last year's five-week stint.
This week's BGSU appearance in the USA Today ESPN poll marks the 17th week in MAC history that a league institution has been listed in the USA Today poll -- BG has been that team in 14 of the 17 weeks.
A MAC school has been ranked in the Associated Press poll in a total of 14 weeks, and BGSU has been the team in 10 of those 14 weeks.
The Falcons' most recent action came in Cancun, Mexico. BGSU lost to Duke by a 55-46 score on Dec. 19, before bouncing back for a 59-48 win over Texas-Arlington the following night. Duke was ranked fourth in both polls at the time of the game, and the Blue Devils now rank third in each.
BGSU returns home for the next two games, facing Delaware on Friday (Dec. 29) and Robert Morris on Sunday (Dec. 31). Delaware, currently 10-1 on the year, is receiving votes in both polls, while RMU is 6-3 heading into a Thursday game.
