BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) -
BGSU HEAD COACH Curt Miller
"What a great game. Hats off to our kids; they were terrific from start to finish and were really focused. We had a week to prepare for this game, and I watched every second of every game that Indiana has played to this point. I watched them multiple times, and couldn't find a weakness. The bottom line was, we came in knowing that we were going to have to make shots against their zone. In the first half, we got them spread out and made some shots. Even after going 1-for-8 from the arc early, we made a lot of 3s in the first half, and it was a totally different second half. They had to make adjustments and go away from their game plan."
"I can't be more proud; this is a huge win for our program. We haven't had a Big Ten team in this building in seven seasons -- this was the first during our tenure -- and I can't be more proud of our kids tonight. What an effort."
(Was this a complete game by your team?)
"Well, it was close to it. We really executed well, and our kids were fired up to play this game. It's not often that you get to play a Big Ten opponent, and it was extra special. There were a lot of other storylines as well ... it was just a special night for our program, and how far we've come in six years."
(On the Falcons' defensive intensity)
"They have so much in their playbook, but we worked very hard to know everything that they were trying to do. We did not want Nikki Smith to get going; we did not want Jamie Braun to get going. A goal of ours was to make them earn every point that they got tonight. We wanted no offensive rebounds (by IU) and no turnovers (by BG). And, we went to halftime with only five turnovers, and only allowing one offensive rebound in the first half. It doesn't get much better than that."
"This team is unbelievable, with great veteran leadership. Any time that I have a mustard seed of doubt, they just wipe it away, because they refuse to back down to anyone. They believe they can win each and every game. That senior class has lost one non-conference game in four years in this building ... the seniors and the juniors, they are such great competitors and leaders for our team. Trust me, this group absolutely hates to lose."
SENIOR CENTER Liz Honegger
(On her first-half shooting)
"I don't know, it just felt good. I'd been struggling all week shooting, and I just kept thinking, 'My shot's off, my shot's off.' Tonight, I got out there before warmups and got some extra shooting in. Basically, I just hit open shots."
(How excited were you late in the first half?)
"I didn't want it to end, to be honest. It was exciting that we got up by that much, and we were able to continue to play hard in the second half and come out on top."
(On the crowd)
"It was awesome; we had great support tonight. At some point in the first half when I came out of the game, I looked across at the student section, and there were a lot of them and they were all standing and cheering. It was awesome, and really gives us a good advantage here at Anderson."
"We are a close-knit group, and we have genuine excitement when our teammates do well. For five of us, this is our last go-around, and we are all excited for each other. When the bench players get in there, they are stepping up and making huge contributions. Just to see that, and to see them grow on the floor, has been great for us as well."
SENIOR WING Megan Thorburn
(On the team's defensive success vs. IU)
"I think we just play hard. Playing hard and being active, both on the ball and off the ball, really helps. We got a lot of deflections and forced some turnovers, which really helped get us going."
(You were guarding their top scorer, Nikki Smith, for a while. What did you try to do against her?)
"Well, I knew she could shoot the 3-ball, and she could also drive. I just tried to get out on her to prevent the three-pointer. I knew that if she got around me, my teammates would be there, and they were. We took charges several times tonight."
(Will this help your team's national ranking?)
"I'm not too concerned about the ranking; I don't think any of us are. But, this was a big win for us. Indiana was above us in the AP poll, so it might move us up in that poll. But, it is just a good win for Bowling Green, and it gets our name out there."
INDIANA HEAD COACH FELISHA LEGETTE-JACK
"First off, I want to congratulate a dear friend of mine, Curt Miller, for the fantastic job that he is doing here at Bowling Green. He has always been an Xs and Os guru, he has always been a fantastic coach, and his teams will always be a challenge for anyone in the country. I'm just so proud of him."
"I'm also proud of our kids; it was a tough match. It was the first strong letdown that we've had since we've been together, but they didn't surrender. Obviously, we lost by a substantial amount of points, but at the end of the game, we were still going after loose balls. For that effort alone, you have to be proud of your kids."
(On Liz Honegger's hot shooting late in the first half)
"It was nothing fancy, it was just a screen on the ball, and step back for a 3. She is a fantastic 3-point specialist. I tell you, she is a great player."
