MUNCIE, Ind. - A few quotes from Bowling Green State University women's basketball coach Curt Miller after the Falcons' 72-60 win over Ball State University Saturday afternoon (Feb. 11) at Worthen Arena ...
"We withstood a very good first half by Ball State. They were really executing and doing a lot of things that certainly put us on our heels. But, once again, our kids kept their composure. At halftime, we talked about playing smarter, and not swaying from the game plan. We shot the ball tremendously well in the second half, and I thought we were very efficient offensively. I was extremely happy with our execution in the second half. We really made Ball State work for each and every point in the second half, and it led to a big road win for us."
"In the second half, we stayed patient and took what the defense gave us, while still remaining aggressive with our offense. Defensively, we did a very good job of limiting their three-point shots. Three-pointers really give Ball State energy, and a key for us was keeping them from having a huge night at the arc. But, again, I give our kids a lot of credit for their composure. Once again, another team started the game like they were shot out of a cannon, and gave us everything we wanted in the first half. But, we were able to stay in the game until halftime, and (staying with them) gave us the energy in the lockerroom, and a feeling that we could come out and play a good 20 minutes in the second half."
(Did you make any big adjustments at halftime, or did you just tell the team to continue to execute the game plan?)
"There were not a lot of changes, in terms of Xs and Os, at halftime. I thought our game plan was on the money, both offensively and defensively. Defensively, we had to talk about player personnel things -- Ball State had done a very good job of playing to their strengths in the first half. Offensively, we just talked about having patience. I thought our offense was working, as long as we weren't so quick to take off-balance shots or try to force tough shots. I felt that our offense was working well enough that, if we could stick to the game plan, good execution could lead to some good baskets. And, shooting nearly 59 percent in the second half shows that we did a much better job at the offensive end."
"This was a really big road win for us. This is a tough place to play. Also, we are happy about securing a first-round bye and a trip to Cleveland. That is a goal of ours, and we are happy to have met that. The win also allows us to maintain our three-game lead (over second-place Kent State) with five games to go, and that's our ultimate goal in the regular season. Our number-one goal is to win the East, and every victory helps us toward that goal."
