OXFORD, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team is ranked 24th in the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches Poll, it was announced Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 28). The Falcons move up a spot after spending each of the last two weeks in 25th place.
This marks the second time in school history that the Falcons have been ranked in the poll in three consecutive weeks. The Brown and Orange appeared in the poll in three-straight weeks in March of 1993, peaking at #20. The team's lone poll appearance in March, 1994, saw the Falcons ranked 24th.
This week's ranking marks only the 10th week in MAC history that a league institution has been listed in the USA Today poll, and BGSU has been the team in seven of those 10 weeks.
The Falcons, 24-2 overall and 15-0 in MAC play, close the regular season with a Tuesday night (Feb. 28) game at Miami University. Following that game, BGSU will have over a week off before opening play in the Kraft MAC Tournament. The Falcons, who have a first-round bye, will face an opponent to be determined in the quarterfinal round of the league tourney. BG's tournament game will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.
