BGSU Carries Momentum Into Conference Championships

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Falcons with a 4-11 overall and 2-4 in the Mid-American Conference record, travel to Kalamazoo, Michigan for the 2006 MAC Championship hosted by Western Michigan this weekend. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 25.
Falcons As A Team
The Orange and Brown best team score is 191.850 against Easter Michigan, which is only 3.925 behind leaders Kent State. They have the third best MAC scores on vault and floor. Their vault score was of 48.400 was posted on Feb. 4 against Northern Illinois University, and their floor score came last week against Eastern Michigan with a 48.750. They are sixth on bars with a 47.725 only 1.475 behind leaders Northern Illinois, and sixth on beam with a 47.875 only 1.300 behind leaders Northern Illinois.
Guyer Owns the Vault
Senior Jessica Guyer leads the way on the vault as she has six out of the top nine performances on vault, including a team high 9.775 which she recorded against Western Michigan back on Feb. 19. Junior Allison Swafford has landed some high scores this season as she has a 9.725 marking a new career high. She set this on Feb. 4 against Northern Illinois. Guyer ranks eighth in the MAC on vault.
Scouting the Bars
The bars have seen many Falcons take control this season. Sophomore Jholeen Ponce is tied for the team high of 9.675 recorded against Central Michigan on Jan. 21. Senior Jessica Bradley and sophomore Ashlee deLeeuw also have a 9.675. DeLeeuw has really provided a spark late in the season for the Falcons as she looks to improve each week.
Balance Beam Will Provide Excitement
Junior Bethany Kenel and Guyer lead the team on beam as they hold seven out of the top eight-team scores this season. Kenel is tied for the second best score in the MAC with a 9.825, which she recorded on Jan. 21 against Central Michigan. She is also tied for eighth in the MAC with a score of 9.800 against Kent State. Guyer's top score is a 9.750.
The Floor Provides a Spark
Guyer again leads the Orange and Brown as she holds five out of the top six spots on floor. Her best score came last week against Eastern as she flipped to a 9.850, and a tie for second in the MAC scores. Four out of the five scores are for first place finishes. Junior Erin Coudriet also has improved as she recorded her top score of the season last week with a 9.775. Swafford and sophomore Jacqelyn Bernhardt also contribute each adding scores of 9.700 or better.
Side Notes
