Samarco And Lefeld Receive Team Honors

Bowling Green, Ohio - Junior All-MAC swingman Martin Samarco was named the Antonio Daniels MVP and fellow junior Matt Lefeld was honored with the Earl Rupright Spirit Award at the 2005-06 men's basketball banquet held this evening.
Samarco averaged 18.9 points and set a BGSU record with 100 three-point field goals made. That total is the third highest in MAC history. He also led the league in three-point field goal percentage (45.7%) and finished second in free throw percentage (85.8%). He led the team in scoring 20 times this year and had a season-high 35 points at Eastern Michigan. He also had 30 against Buffalo, 28 against Ohio and 27 apiece against Bradley in Florida State. In MAC play, he averaged 19.4 points and shot 50.8% from three-point range (67/132) and 90.4% from the free throw line (66/73). He was named second team All-MAC.

Lefeld was named Academic All-MAC and earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. A native of Coldwater, scored 7.1 ppg. and pulled down 3.4 rebounds per game for the Falcons and was one of the most improved players in the league after scoring just 14 points a season ago. He has the top GPA of any player in the MAC at 3.96 and is majoring in Business. He played all season with sore feet which limited his ability to practice.
