ORLANDO, Fla. - Falcon tennis closed their spring break trip with their third and final win in Orlando, Fla. The 6-1 win over the Duquesne Dukes gave the Falcons their eight straight win and tenth overall this season. The Dukes are now 1-3 against Mid-American Conference opponents and are 2-3 on the season.
"It was a very tough match," said coach Penny Dean. "It was our hardest one down here. The match-ups were tough but we prevailed."
The Falcons won the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights. In the first flight, Jenna Nussbaum and Heidi Romer were defeated in a heartbreaker, 9-8.
As individuals, the Orange and Brown saw wins at the No. 1 through No. 5 flights. Romer, Andrea Meister and Stefanie Menoff saw the closes sets of the match with Romer and Meister narrowly escaping with a win.
"We fought hard, they [Duquesne] fought hard and I thought we played even better in the second set," said Dean.
The Falcons will host Ferris State March 18 in their Keefe Court opener. The initial set will begin at 1:00 p.m. The Ferris State match will be the final match for the Orange and Brown before MAC play begins.
