OXFORD, Ohio - The Bowling Green Tennis Falcons provided enough heat and friction on the court to disregard the cooler temperatures which they faced while squaring off against Mid-American Conference foe Miami University in Oxford. In a repeat situation of yesterday's match, the win came down to the last match where the RedHawks narrowly escaped with the win, 4-3.
The Falcons fired off three wins to sweep the doubles point and picked up another two points in the singles contests with wins by Heidi Romer and Stefanie Menoff. Romer's was one of just two matches that was won in two sets.
With the team scores tied at three points each, the deciding match between Ashley Jakupcin and Katrina Lomidze of MU was forced to a third set when Jakupcin's win in the second set kept the Orange and Brown afloat. The tie-breaker was won on a late rally by Lomidze.
Bowling Green returns to Keefe Courts with a 13-6 overall record and are at an even 2-2 in MAC play while the RedHawks improve to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in conference matches.
The Falcons will return to northwest Ohio splitting time at home and on the road next weekend. BGSU hosts Western Michigan on Friday afternoon and will travel northward to Toledo to face the rival Rockets of the University of Toledo on Saturday.
