BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University head volleyball coach Denise Van De Walle has announced that Bre Detrick has been named an assistant to her staff, joining Mark Hardaway, who is in his third year.
"I am looking forward to coming back to the Ohio and Michigan area, and to have the opportunity to work with a staff that has a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience with the game of volleyball," said Detrick. "The team and staff at Bowling Green display a great dynamic team chemistry that I can't wait to be a part of."
This past season she was the first assistant at the University of Louisiana at Monroe where she helped the team record their most wins in 14 years. In January she was named interim head coach at ULM after their former coach, Mark Pryor, resigned.
Prior to her time at ULM, Detrick was a student assistant at her alma mater, Wayne State University. As a student-athlete for the Warriors, Detrick lettered two seasons and was a co-captain of the volleyball squad during the 2003 season.
The Lambertville, Mich., native played in all 103 games as a senior, leading the squad with 427 digs at the libero position. She ranked third in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference at 4.15 digs per game and was named to the GLIAC All-Academic team in 2003. She was also named to the GLIAC All-Academic team as a senior.
In addition to her time at Wayne State, she also played two years for Owens Community College (1999-2000) where she was a first team all-conference selection. During her tenure at Owens, she led the team to a 46-7 record and back-to-back National Tournament appearances.
"I'm looking forward to having Bre on our staff," said head coach Denise Van De Walle. "She is familiar with the area which will help with our recruiting right away. She found herself in a tough situation at ULM with Coach Pryor leaving at the semester, but from everything we've been told she's handled it just fine. She will be a nice addition."
