BGSU Volleyball Announces Promotion Of Chelsi Carter To Associate Head Coach
February 17, 2026 | Volleyball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball program and head coach Alex DelPiombo have announced the promotion of former assistant coach Chelsi Carter to the position of Associate Head Coach. Carter joined the Falcons prior to the start of the 2025 season as one of three assistants under DelPiombo during her inaugural season as head coach.
"I couldn't be more excited to promote Chelsi to Associate Head Coach," said DelPiombo. "She has been a cornerstone of our staff and an integral part of our program. In a year that brought both professional growth and personal milestones for me, she was passionate, selfless, and all-in every single day. During my first season as a head coach – and while navigating life as a first-time mom – her leadership and support were invaluable. Our student-athletes trust her, our staff relies on her, and this promotion is incredibly well-earned."
During her first season with Orange and Brown in 2025, Carter aided the Falcons to a 17-15 record while going 10-8 within the Mid-American Conference. BGSU made the MAC Tournament while Jessica Andrews and Avery Hobson earned First Team All-MAC honors. At the conclusion of the regular season, the Falcons ranked inside the top 50 in the nation for multiple stats, including total blocks (24th, 288.5), assists (30th, 1,454), kills (T-37th, 1,557), total attacks (39th, 4,203) and aces (40th, 197).
"To be surrounded by this staff, support staff, and a fearless leader is a lucky place to be," said Carter. "I would not be able to achieve this title without the people I burned the midnight oil with.
"Alex sets a high standard, not only for herself but for our players, staff, and she's right there with you through it all (even at nine months pregnant during two-a-days and postpartum), I'm extremely grateful she's in my corner! Alex creates space for authenticity, grit, honesty, family, trust, and balance. A space and environment that was talked about in my interview and now coming to fruition. A reality of ambitious people being surrounded by ambitious people, something that a true competitor dreams of.
She leads and mentors me not only as a coach, but also as a human being, a friend, and a mentor myself. I love what I get to do. Thank you Alex for being you! Always in your corner. AY ZIGGY!"
Carter came to Bowling Green following three years on staff at the University of Alabama, serving as an assistant coach. With the Crimson Tide, Carter aided in nine players being named CSC Academic All-District and one to the SEC Volleyball Community Service Team. During her time in Tuscaloosa, Alabama broke the program's attendance record with over 3,800 in attendance. During the staff's first season, Alabama ranked in the top three in the SEC in aces and digs.
