The Future Looks Bright
The Falcons return just 11 starters and have 23 players who are freshmen or sophomores listed among the two-deep at their respective positions. Sophomore Anthony Turner and freshman Freddie Barnes are battling at quarterback to replace Omar Jacobs who declared for the NFL draft. Junior Dan Macon is coming off a redshirt year and will look to give the Falcons its best speed threat in the backfield in recent seasons. The offensive line returns All-MAC performers Kory Lichtensteiger and Derrick Markray and the receiving corps, led by sophomore Corey Partridge, senior Ruben Ruiz, sophomore Marques Parks, and seniors Kenneth Brantley and Brandon Jones have big shoes to fill with the departure of Steve Sanders and Charles Sharon. Junior tight end Sean O'Drobinak made some key plays last season and should see an increased role within the offense.
On defense, seniors Brad Williams and Devon Parks boast experience on the line, while sophomores Diyral Briggs and Nick Davis were impressive as rookies last season. The secondary returns three experienced players in juniors Deaudre Perry and Loren Hargrove and sophomore Antonio Smith. Senior Terrel White is the only returning starter at linebacker with freshman Cody Basler, sophomore Erique Dozier, senior Jon Jakubowski, sophomore John Haneline, and sophomore Scott Goodwin all looking to emerge.
"We have some enthusiastic and talented young guys in our program right now who just need the experience," added Brandon. "A lot of guys may not be household names, but I could not be more excited about the effort our team has given this spring.
