Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University men's basketball coach Dan Dakich has announced the signing of three players to national letters of intent to attend BGSU and play basketball for the Falcons. Ryne Hamblet, a 6-6 guard from Chipola (Florida) College, Chris Knight, a 6-7 forward from The Patterson School in North Carolina, and Otis Polk, a 6-9 center, from Detroit Consortium Prep. All three committed to the Falcons during the recent spring signing period.
"These are great kids who will add athleticism, strength and versatility to our program," said Dakich. "They should be players our fans really enjoy watching. They all come from programs that were very competitive and strongly emphasize team success first."
Ryne Hamblet, 6-6, 170, Guard, Chipola (Fla.) College, Chicago, Ill./Von Steuben
Hamblet was a two-time All-Conference performer for NJCAA power Chipola College in Florida. He averaged 11 points and shot 53.5 percent from the floor, 38.7% from three-point range and 70% from the line. He averaged nine points as a freshman and helped the Indians win the Region VIII title.
"I liked the tradition at BGSU under Coach Dakich and I feel I have the chance to come in and produce right away," said Hamblet. "My parents and I were really impressed with the sincerity and honesty of Coach Dakich and his staff. "
Hamblet, a native of Chicago, averaged 18 points, five rebounds and five assists as a senior. He earned All-State and All-City honors at Von Steuben High School and helped his squad to an Illinois Sweet 16 State berth.
"Ryne brings versatility to our team," said Dakich. "His athleticism is excellent and we look for him to make plays, make others better and provide consistent scoring."
Chris Knight, 6-7, 210 , The Patterson School (N.C.), Cincinnati Withrow
Knight played this past season at The Patterson School in North Carolina and helped them to a 37-3 record and a #3 national rank for prep schools. He averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds and four assists on a squad which had 14 players accept Division I scholarships. At Withrow High School in Cincinnati, he was a first-team All-State, All-City and Southwest Ohio MVP after averaging 23 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks as a senior.
"I think BGSU is a good fit for me with it being close to home, said Knight. "I think Coach Dakich is a great coach who can really help take my game to the next level. It's a great opportunity for me."
"I thought a year ago he was one of the top five high school players in the state of Ohio," said Dakich. "He's athletic and is multi-dimensional."
Otis Polk, 6-9, 285, Center, Detroit Consortium Prep
Polk was a first team Class C All-State performer as a senior after averaging 17 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots per game.
"I really think the coaches at BGSU can really help my development as a basketball player," said Polk. "They have a good nucleus of young players and the school is close enough to home, but not too close. My family and I were especially impressed with the Education program and all of those factors make this a good fit for me."
"He has the size and strength to play right now," said Dakich. "He handles himself well under the basket with his ability to defend and with his ability to score inside."
