Women's Track and Cross Country Announces 2006-2007 Recruiting Class

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green Cross Country and Track and Field department have announced their 2006-2007 recruiting class and those women who have signed national letters of intent to attend and become a Falcon. This year's class has a local theme to it as it features three athletes from Bowling Green and Luckey.

Bates has also had great success in cross country while competing for Palatine. She was a member of the Palatine Cross Country Team that got 2nd at state in 2003 and finished of 32nd individually that season. This past fall Carly battled injury but continued to add to her list of achievements. Carly finished 6th overall at her cross country conference meet as well as earning an 8th place finish at the competitive Peoria invitational. Carly was a member of the 2005 Palatine Cross Country team that finished 3rd at the Illinois State Meet and was selected as one of the top senior cross country runners in Illinois and represented Team Illinois in the Mid East meet of Champions in Kettering, Ohio. Bates has been named to the honor roll 4 consecutive years. She is a member of the A team which is a group that is recognized for academics and athletics. Carly also serves as an intern for a special education classroom and volunteers for the Special Olympics. She has run personal best times of 17:50 for 3 miles in cross country, 60.7 for 400 meters, 2:16 for 800 meters, and 5:20 for1600 meters. Carly is the daughter of William and Bonnie Bates and is coached by Steve Currins. She plans to major in special education.
"Carly is such an enthusiastic person. I was initially very impresses with Carly's extensive list of athletic accomplishments but after I met her I was equally impressed with her as an individual. Carly is giving and determined, she has battled back from injury and she always has something positive to say. Carly is the kind of athlete that any coach would love to work with. I am very excited to welcome Carly to the team and believe she will be a solid contributor in many areas for us during her time at Bowling Green," said Wells.

"Lindsay has tried a wide variety of track and field events and has done quite well in a variety of areas. Lindsay is going to be a lot of fun to work with and I look forward to seeing which event areas she will be best suited to in the future. Lindsay is a great addition to the team. She is enthusiastic and ready to give her best effort in which ever event she is asked to run," said Wells.

Autumn finished 8th overall at the 2005 Division 1 Wisconsin State Meet and earned 1st Team All-State honors. Autumn was also named the 2005 WLT Cross Country Runner of the Year. In 2003 Autumn earned Honorable Mention All-State in cross country. Autumn has had great success in track and field as well as cross country while competing for Watertown High School. Autumn finished 4th in the 1600m and 7th in the 3200m at the 2005 WIAA State Meet, she also finished 5th in 800m at 2004 WIAA State Meet. Dettmann is a member of the National Honor Society and a Rotary student. Autumn has run personal best times of 14:32 for 4000m and 19:02 for 5000m in cross country, 2:18 for 800m, 5:06 for 1600m, and 11:17 for 3200m.
Autumn is the daughter of Rodger and Diane Dettmann and is coached by Tim Gifford. She plans to major in social work.
"Autumn is a highly competitive and successful student and athlete. Autumn has great range from the 400m to the 5000m and is expected to make an immediate impact in both cross country and track. Autumn has proven herself as one of the best distance runners in the state of Wisconsin. Autumn has the right combination of drive and ability to make her a very successful runner. I am really looking forward to working with Autumn and welcoming her to the team," said Wells.
Emily Gallagher Xenia, OH (Beavercreek H.S.) Emily is a solid contributor for the Beavercreek Track and Field and Cross Country Teams. Emily has also done a great job in the classroom and was named a National Merit Semifinalist. She has run personal best times of 62.0 for 400m, 2:23 for 800m, and 19:53 for 5000m in cross country. Daughter of Melissa and Ted Gallagher, coached by Jack Holliday. Plans to major in Education or journalism.
"Emily is a gifted student and athlete who comes from a high school with a history of developing great distance runners. I am looking forward to having Emily join the team and seeing her continue to progress," said Wells.
Hillary Hewit Westfield Ctr., OH (Cloverleaf H.S.) Hillary Placed 5th in the 800m at the 2004 Division I Ohio State Meet. She was named the Most Valuable Person for her track and field team the past 2 years. Hillary earned All-Ohio Honors in Track in 2004. She is a member of the National Honor Society as well as being a member of the Varsity Soccer and Swimming teams at Cloverleaf High School. Hillary has run personal best times of 58 for 400m, 2:13.6 for 800m, 5:27 for 1600m. She is the daughter of James and Brenda Hewit and is coached by Todd Clark. Plans to major in the art or Spanish.
"Hillary has been successful in multiple sports throughout her high school career. She is equally successful in the classroom and maintains a 4.0 GPA. I feel that Hillary has the potential to be one of the best 800m runners in the conference. She has already run 2:13 for 800m and with her natural ability and work ethic I feel that she has just begun to tap her potential in that event," said Wells.
Paige Lane Bowling Green, OH (Bowling Green H.S.) Lane was a member of the Bowling Green High School Girls Cross Country Team that won the 2003, 2004, and 2005 Division I State Cross Country Team Championships. Lane maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA and is #1 in her class, she is a National Merit Special Scholarship recipient and a Buckeye Girls State Delegate, she is also a member of the National Honors Society and the French National Honor Society, has earned Academic All-Ohio honors 5 times, 4 in cross country and 1 in track. Lane also earned All-Ohio honors in the 4 X 800 in 2005. Paige has run personal best times of 60.0 for 400m, 2:19 for 800m and 18:45 for 5000m in cross country.
She is the daughter of Matt and Ann Lane and is coached by Brian Tucker and Patrick Carney. Plans to pursue an Exercise Specialist degree.
"Paige is just an outstanding young lady. She is a brilliant student and a tremendously hard working athlete. Paige has been very successful as a member of the Bowling Green high school track and cross country teams and I am thrilled that she has decided to continue her athletic career at Bowling Green State University. I believe Paige will be a major contributor in the middle distances and cross country," said Wells.
Andrea Pereira de Almeida Bowling Green, OH (Bowling Green H.S.) Member of her high school's first state qualifying girls cross country team in 2002 (Team finished 9th of 16) member of the Bowling Green High School Girls Cross Country Team that won the 2003, 2004, and 2005 Division I State Cross Country Team Championships. Participated in the first annual Nike Team National Cross Country Championships in Portland, Oregon in December 2004. Earned1st Team NLL in 2002, 2005, and 2nd Team NLL in 2003. Named Senior All-Academic Cross Country Athlete. Has earned 4 Cross Country Varsity letters. Earned Academic All Ohio Cross Country Athlete in 2003, 2005 A Member of the National Honors Society, and the French National Honors Society Andrea is the daughter of Kathy and Jose Luiz Pereira de Almeida. Was coached by Bob Rex and Duff Madaras at Bowling Green Junior High School and is currently coached by Brain Tucker and Patrick Carney at Bowling Green Senior High School. She plans to major in Architecture. Has run personal best times of 5:25 for 1600m, 12:15 for 3200m and 19:23 for 5000m in cross country.
"Andrea has impressed me since the first time I saw her compete years ago. She has a quiet determination about her and she will be a huge asset to the team. Andrea is clearly dedicated to her running and her academics. I am very excited to work with such a dedicated and pleasant young lady. I believe Andrea is just starting to realize her potential in running and has a bright future ahead of her. I am happy to announce Andrea as a member of our 2006 freshman recruiting class," said Wells.
Taylor Sefranka Fort Wayne, IN (Paul Harding High School) Taylor is a four time Indoor State Champion in the 55m hurdles in the Small School Division. In 2005 Taylor had the 2nd fastest time in Indiana in the 300m hurdles. Academically Taylor is in the top 10% of her class. She has run personal bests of 14.79 for the 100m hurdles, 44.0 for the 300m hurdles, 62.8 for the 400m hurdles, 57.0 for the 400m and 2:30 for the 800m. Taylor is the daughter of Judy Hussher and Scott Sefranka, and is coached by Jim Uebelhoer. She plans to major in Elementary Education
"I am very excited that Taylor has chosen to be a member of the BGSU community and look forward to her contributions to our program in the years to come," said coach Clive Roberts. "She brings a great deal of ability and competitiveness to our program from her outstanding experiences attained in High School," said Wells.
Danielle Thornton Luckey, OH (Eastwood H.S.) Danielle placed 4th in the 800m at the Division II 2005 Ohio State Meet. She was named the League athlete of the year and earned 1st team SLL the past 3 years. Danielle was also named the Most Valuable Runner at Eastwood High School the past 3 years. Thornton is also a key member of the Eastwood High School Volleyball and Basketball teams. Danielle was named the SLL player of the year this past season in volleyball and led her team to and undefeated league season. Danielle has run personal bests of 12.9 for 100m, 26.1 for 200m, 58.9 for 400m, 2:17 for 800m. She is the daughter of Darlene and Jeffrey Thornton. Coached by Richard Morgan. She plans to pursue a degree in radiology or physical therapy.
"Danielle is just a very talented multi-sport athlete. She has all the physical attributes of a great track and field runner and has only just begun to explore the middle distance area. Danielle started running the 800m last year and ended up finishing 4th at the state meet. There is no limit to where Danielle can take her track and field career and I am really looking forward to working with her. I am so pleased she decided to stay close to home to pursue her college career," said Wells.
