Romer's 13 Match Win Streak and Falcons Fall to WMU, 7-0

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Senior co-captain Heidi Romer was unable to extend her consecutive win streak to 14 as she and the Falcons (13-7, 2-3) dropped a home MAC contest to the Western Michigan Broncos(14-5, 5-0). Romer's streak is believed to be a new university record at 13 straight singles wins, which was begun on February 11 against Bradley University.
Western Michigan entered the match, which was relocated early this morning due to colder weather temperatures, losing just one singles match and two doubles matches in conference play. The University at Buffalo has been the only successful MAC team to not be shut-out by the Broncos, 6-1.
"The scores are closer than they appear," said coach Penny Dean. "Western Michigan was just outstanding today."
Dean credited her team's effort in the loss but noted WMU's strength and ability to take advantage of setting the pace for the matches.
The Falcons will look to regroup as they spend next weekend on the road visiting rival Toledo and the Eagles of Eastern Michigan University. Both Friday and Saturday's conference matches will see first serve at 1:00 p.m.
