BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Stephanie Young, who has been serving as the interim coach of the women's golf team since early February, has been named the full-time head coach of the women's golf team, effective immediately.
"I am extremely excited to join the coaching staff on a full time basis," said Young. "I am honored to have the opportunity to take Bowling Green Women's Golf to the next level."
While only being with the Falcons since February, coach Young and the Falcons have made major improvements in the landscape of the team. In just their second tournament behind the helm of Young, the Falcons captured the St. George Invitational by placing three Falcons in the top seven among the 30 competitors.
In their next tournament the Brown and Orange went up against some of the best Mid-West talent in the country, finishing ninth in the 16-team field. In that tournament alone BGSU out-shot fellow MAC opponents Western Michigan and Northern Illinois, while falling just 12 shots back of Ball State. Also of note, in that same tournament sophomore Jessica McCann shot a 75-77--152, en route to being named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week. It was the Falcons first MAC Player of the Week in over five years.
At the MAC Championships in Indian Springs, Ohio, the Falcons were the lone team to improve all four rounds of the tournament (325-322-317-315). Young also helped all five Falcons to establish personal-bests in the MAC Championships.
Prior to BGSU, Young earned her Bachelors degree in 2002 (Business mgmt) and her masters in 2003 (Business Admin.) from the University of Toledo, where she also was a member of the University of Toledo women's golf team from 1998-2002. She earned four letters and was a four-year team captain for the Rockets. In 2000 she was the individual champion at the Bowling Green Invitational and helped her team to eight team titles.
Young also served as an USGA intern for the Toledo District Golf Association, an assistant for the Toledo Junior Golf Association and was an assistant to the head teaching professional (James P. McGurk) at the Sylvania Country.
