Earlier this month, Heimrich was one of just two MAC student-athletes to be named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team, being named to that squad for the third year in a row. Heimrich, who recently completed her senior season, was a second-team all-district selection.
On the season, Heimrich played in 50 games, making 48 starts. She had a .208 batting average, and a fielding percentage of .981, in 2006. In MAC games, she was fourth on the team with a .333 batting average, and had a .429 slugging percentage.
Vallas played in 59 of BGSU's 60 games on the year, starting all 59. She hit .294, good for fourth on the team, and had a total of 26 runs batted in, the second-highest total on the Falcons. She batted .312 with a .403 slugging percentage in conference games.
The Academic All-MAC honor is bestowed upon student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify for consideration, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
The Falcons of head coach Leigh Ross finished the 2006 season with a 37-23 overall record, tying the school single-season mark for wins. BGSU ended MAC play with a 16-6 league ledger, and advanced to the conference tournament for the eighth time in the last nine years.
