Bowling Green, Ohio - This year's season opening football game on September 2, "The Clash in Cleveland", between Bowling Green State University and the University of Wisconsin in Cleveland Browns Stadium will now kickoff at 7 p.m. (Eastern), BGSU Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics Greg Christopher announced today.
"This game is uniquely positioned over Labor Day weekend and we believe the later start allows us to attract the largest audience possible for this historic event, " said Christopher. "The fact that we can now have the game televised also played a role in our decision to move the kickoff to later in the day. ESPN Regional will syndicate the game in a number of key markets for us, and our alumni across the nation who cannot join us in Cleveland can watch the contest live via the Game Plan pay-per-view package."
This will be the second meeting in two seasons between BGSU and Wisconsin. Last year, the Badgers captured a 56-42 victory in Wisconsin. Since the 2001 season, BGSU is 3-2 against Big Ten competition.
"In order to give our team a true home field advantage, we need Falcon fans and alumni to rally behind the team and help fill Browns Stadium on Sept. 2," said BGSU football coach Gregg Brandon. "It's always important to start the season on a good note and playing in front of a lot of fans wearing orange and brown would be an ideal way to kickoff the 2006 season."
Tickets for the general public are $20 (mezzanine level/end zone) $30 (club and lower bowl) $50 (club seating), and are available at Ticketmaster.com. Tickets for currently enrolled BGSU students are $10 (limit of 4 per student in the lower Dog Pound) and must be purchased through the BGSU Athletics Ticket Office in Memorial Hall. Groups of 20 or more also may purchase select tickets for $7.
The BGSU Falcon Club also will be sponsoring buses to the game from Bowling Green. Round-trip transportation is $20 for Falcon Club members and $25 for non-members. The price does not include your ticket to the game. To make bus reservations call the Falcon Club at 372-7063
"With it being the first weekend of college football, the atmosphere and anticipation will rival a bowl game and should be something the entire family can enjoy," said Christopher. "I truly hope our fans will not only come out in full force, but take advantage of everything that downtown Cleveland has to offer and make this a great experience in the process."
