BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The men's soccer team began their 41st season by welcoming thirteen rookie Falcons to campus yesterday and did not waste any time before allowing the entire team to flaunt their new Adidas uniforms. After settling into their temporary dormitory, the Falcons posed for headshots and the official team photo. Meetings with BGSU administration and a team dinner followed.
Today, the Falcons took to the field at 7:00 a.m. for their first workout of camp. Later in the day, an inter-squad scrimmage allowed the rookies to take on the lettermen for thirty minutes before the team was arbitrarily divided for an additional thirty minutes.
The rookie's will have less than a week to acclimate themselves to the playing style of the college game as BGSU prepares to battle Xavier University in an exhibition match on Tuesday, August 15. Kick-off is set for 5:30 and is open to the general public.
The first road trip is scheduled for just five days later when BGSU makes the short trip to Dayton for their second exhibition match. Sunday's match is scheduled to begin at high noon against the flyers.
Of the twenty-six student-athletes listed on the roster, just half are returning veterans. The 2006 team is made even more unique as third year head coach Fred Thompson will not have any seniors on this season's roster.
The Falcons finished last season with a 1-4-0 MAC record and at 4-13-2 overall. They were named to the NCAA's Most Improved List and were awarded the Most Improved GPA by the BGSU Athletic Department in the off-season.
